CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

pretty much since day one anything that had wires running through the rubber boot from the body to the drivers door was subject to failure.within a few months the power mirrors would only move in three directions, but we thought the guy at the car wash broke the motor to move it up. Then a year later the drivers side speakers stopped working. We never even noticed the dinging tone disappear until I opened the door to find out why the speaker stopped working.

To fix these issues you have to pop out the rubber boot that "shields" the wires as they pass through the body to the door (by the hinge). I removed the door panel, unhooked the harness and re soldered and wrapped every single wire that passes through because they ALL were missing insulation, the wires had frayed and broken in the case of the mirror, the dinger, and the speakers. you would think after 70+ years of making cars they would figure out how to run wires through a door, no wonder they went bankrupt... pay attention to what you make. THANKS CHEVY!
