CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

My car has been looked at by several professionals yet there is no answer as to why during the rainy months my car loads up with water in the trunk and completely soaks the entire floor all the way to the front. It leaves puddles on my front mats. It creates stains on my seats and it's enough water for a small child's pool. The only solution given to me is to pay someone thousands of dollars to explore the problem with no guarantee. I have called and googled several solutions that will only cost me more money than the worth of the car. It can't keep happening it will completely rust my car!!!

The strip around the window broke and caused a good 3 inches of rain to enter inside the truck. Although it was fixed under the standard warranty, I'm disappointed that I've had several other problems with this truck and I'm not a happy customer.

This car wasn't even a year old - when I got in - and noticed something smelled odd...it wasn't until a few days later, my husband was driving & I was sitting shotgun that I noticed the entire front passenger side of the car was a huge puddle!!! and had spread to the back-passenger side...I was told that this was because of pine needles... and I needed to park my car in a garage - or cut down all the trees in the area. (neither a possibility) Considering the car was less than a year old - the carpet on the front left side - and entire backseat was replaced..

About 2 weeks later - I was going thru the car wash - and water started POURING into the car from the console / ceiling lights . Brought to the dealership - they said there must have been a different spot clogged - taking ZERO responsiblity for not properly cleaning out the ducts/ vents?/ drains less than a month before. Brought BACK to the dealership - and they "Cleared" them out again.

About two months later - the intial problem happened again - and the entire front & back floor was under 2-3 inches of water.. horrible! Brought to the dealership - and I was told that I would have to sign to accept my car - and by signing that receipt I acknowledge that I am responsible for the flooding of the car- and no further repairs of this nature would be covered on my warrenty. Less than a year and I was livid with this car

Apparently there are some "drains" underneath the hood that get clogged up, and when this happens the water comes back through the vents in the floor by the console and flood the floor, so I have to keep taking it to the dealer I bought it from the have them "dry it out" and try to find the leak. Apparently there is no fix for this problem, so when it rains and I have 2 inches of water standing on the floor mats (literally my shoes were covered with water), then the car just has to sit, as everything gets wet including transmission, and everything under the hood, so the car will not go. After 2 or 3 days of "drying out" then the car will go again, otherwise I'm stuck at home with a wet car.

As others have said.........our carpet was soaked. That is almost an understatement. We had an tremendous amount of rain within a 3 day period and the water almost puddled in the back seat area. Months ago when it first occurred, I thought that a window was left open. On that occasion, that water was minimal and dried quickly. This time it was crazy. It took a week of 70 degree days and windows down 24/7 to dry. After reading on AutoBeef about the spare tire basin, I checked mine and low and behold........4 inches of water easy.......and that was after several of the 70 degree days. Who knows. I drilled 3 holes in the low points of the spare tire basin to drain the water, but that is not the real solution........I just want to get rid of the vehicle!

I have the same problem! UGH! It happened after I took my car through a car wash. Suddenly, my heater started blowing COLD AIR and my carpets were SOAKING wet! I'm going to have to get it looked at. I called my dealer to schedule an appointment & they said it's going to take a few DAYS, IF (key word IF) they can find the leak. Oh, did I mention that it's only February, and I bought the car back in September?????? The reason I bought this vehicle was because I got into a car accident i was not at fault and I needed/wanted something SAFE for my kids. NOW, it's cold & wet in my car, so every day we get into a wet COOOLD car, and I cant really fix anything right now. So, NOW I have a COLD WET CAR, that will make my kids sick if they have to ride in it for more than a few minutes, and a REPAIR BILL that's sky high. I cant help but feel like they sold me a LEMON. Which really for lack of a better word SUCKS!

I took my vehicle to the Chevy dealership and they said they would charge me a min of 2 hours of labor to find the leak if they could find it. Everytime it rains I get floorboards full of water. Has anyone had the same problem. Have they found a cure to it? I cant wait to get rid of this piece of garbage. I will never buy another GM product.

It stared last month. One day out of the blue I started hearing the sound water sloshing around coming from the back of the car. I thought it might be a bottle of water that got stuck under the back seat or something. Then a few days later I had to quickly stop the car to avoid another car and water came rushing out from under the back seat. When I got home I looked in the spare tire compartment and discovered about 2-3 inches of water. under the spare tire. I emptied the water had my carpet cleaned and dried thinking that that was strange. A few days later we had another rain storm pass and the water was back. UGH!!! Now every time it rains I get water in my trunk. I can't tell how it's getting in there, but it is becoming very anoying. Is anyone else having this issue? I have had it with this car, first the heater thing everyone seems to be having and now this. I'm don with GM (Government Motors).

When I have been making hard turns lately I had heard water in the back of my car. I wasn't sure if I had left a bottle back there, but it sounded like a lot more water than that and it was moving quite a distance. I opened up where my spare is and found about 2 in. of water. The pad under the spare was soaked. I just moved from the east coast to Seattle, not sure if I've always had a little water back there and never heard it, or its just the constant drizzle here that did it. It doesn't smell, I ended up throwing out that pad. I guess I will check on it every few months. My lease is up in a few months so I don't care about any long term solution. Still have no idea how all that water got in there though, it seems pretty well sealed up.

At 15,685 miles my car is once again in the shop for a new problem now. The spare tire well fills up with water when it rains. It eventually smells very musty in the car. Also if it fills up enough it starts to leak into the floor board of my back seat and gets the carpet wet. It wouldn't be so bad if my car hadn't already been in the shop 5 times in the past year. Still not buying Chevy again.
