Bought the stupid car, but I was never told about the oil issue. When we found out about the oil consumption issue, I was told we would not qualify for the GM/Chevy Dealer lawsuit/BS because we were the third owners of vehicle. Have had S*quinox over a year and have had to keep 2 5qt containers of oil in at all times. I was oversold on a piece of crap. Well, guess what goes out... Because of the excess oil consumption, the catalytic converter goes. Paid 1890 and change to have it fixed. I have always hated Chevys, and never owned one until this POS. Cannot wait to get rid of it and I will never own another one again. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE POS - they are called S*quinox for a reason.

I called the local dealership and all of the numbers that I was told to call. GM said it's not their problem, even though they did agree it was probably because of the excessive oil consumption, which they agreed was something they knew about, but said Oh Well Too Bad, So Sad... And all because we did not get it to them before the end of "time limits of the issue period". Yeah... that was before we bought the POS.

GM is a joke company and they make crap vehicles.

Equinox LT 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 118,600 miles

My Equinox had the piston rings repair done under recall at about 97,000 miles. Now my catalytic converter has failed and needs to be replaced. Chevy refused to accept any responsibility and said it was my problem. They also diagnosed the car with a cracked exhaust manifold, a bad water pump and a blown rear main seal. They provided a repair quote of just under $6,300. I paid the diagnostic fee and took the car to another mechanic, he agreed that the catalytic converter was bad and that the cam shaft solenoids needed to be replaced. They could not find anything wrong with the exhaust manifold or the water pump. The also found out that the oil filter cap was leaking a lot and not the rear main seal. Total cost for the repairs is right around $1,900.

So because of an oil consumption issue with my Equinox, the catalytic converter is now bad. An estimate to fix this problem is roughly $1500.00. The technician at my dealership flat out says its because of the oil consumption issue. However, Chevy refuses to help cover any costs to fix this. Guess it just proves that I will not own another Chevy vehicle in the future and I'm sure to tell anyone considering buying an Equinox to not waste their money!!!!
