As I was driving down the street the wiper blades stopped working. I tried to turn the wipers back off and then back on and the motor seems to work however the blades were not moving. It was raining out and I was driving when this happened. This is a big safety issue. Luckily I did not get in an accident.

The windshield wiper transmission failed. The wipers stopped completely. My daughter was driving in a heavy thunderstorm and couldn't see anything. She was on I-95 in heavy traffic in the middle lane and was lucky to avoid an accident. I'm aware that there was a recall for the same thing in 2013 models and that there is a current investigation into the same problem for other years. This could have been tragic! I see numerous repair videos online for the same exact problem! Chevy knows this!

During heavy rain with poor visibility windshield wipers stopped at top of stroke and did not move any further. I had to stop at a busy intersection no longer able to safety perform a left hand turn onto a divided highway across two lanes of traffic, I had to put on hazard lights and turn right from a left hand only turn lane due to being unable to see out of front windshield but only able to see traffic from door window. Wiper motor made noises but blades did not move. Was forced to wait approximately 30 minutes until rain stopped to proceed to mechanics shop. This occurred at the intersection of topside drive and alcoa highway in knoxville, Tennessee. I had my wife, 19 year old son, 12 year old niece, and 7 year old nephew in the vehicle. The failure of the wiper system occurred suddenly and without warning with no prior issues with wiper system. The vehicle is a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox with 104,000 miles.

Vehicle: 2014 Chevy Equinox note:3 incidents, all from windshield wiper transmission failing incident #1: 5/19/2019, driving @55mph on highway(with my family in the car!) pouring rain, windshield wipers on high & the wipers stopped working! no visibility at that point! truck behind me had to veer off almost hitting us because I had to slow so quickly!! had to stop, my husband was able to pop the ball joint on the wiper transmission back in place. Extreme safety issue!!!! incident #2: November 15,2019, driving 35 mph close to home, using wipers due to rain.windshield wipers on constant low.they stopped working.(3 year old grandson in car.) replaced the windshield wiper transmission the next day. (have receipt but it wont download.) incident #3: February 13, 2020, it had snowed, car was parked, started the car to warm it up, wiped all the snow from windshield and below wipers so there wasnt an unforeseen issue with the wipers again.went back in the house with heater on defrost, about 10 minutes later returned to the car (with 3 year old grandson), got in the car, turned on the wipers and the 3rd swipe, the windshield wipers stoppped working again!! same issue.my husband replaced the ball joints two times since Feb.13th and they keep doing the same thing, swipe 2 or 3 times and stop working. Today is February 18, 2020 and ive still no use of wipers.husband's gone for work all week and home on weekends. I am now using rain-X and a squeegee to keep my windshield clear due to having to take my grandson to preschool & back daily & 1 vehicle. My vehicle wasnt included in the prior recalls.someone needs to change this because it's apparent that its a huge safety issue! this needs addressed asap with some changes! this has gone on far too long and too many complaints not to put out a recall! why wait for deaths to occur to recall this serious malfunction!

On 1/18/2020, while driving during heavy rain, the wipers swung to the left during a cycle and stayed in the far left position. They did not cycle anymore and became loose and could be moved by hand in any direction. Pulled off and got under hood and changed the fuse #29, with no avail. The wiper motor could be heard but would not cycle the wipers. Very dangerous conditions in which to lose function of wipers.
