What were they thinking at GM. $150 for a rebuilt alternator aftermarket, holy crap. The voltage regulator is built into the alternator and so the price of an alternator with voltage regulator is $150 instead of more like $40 at your typical auto parts store. And that's not the worst of it. When the alternator quits, it takes out the battery, or perhaps it's the other way around, but a couple of my GM cars have lost both alt and battery at the same time, and I've been told by mechanics that the two failures are now linked. And the alternator lower rear nut is not welded to the lower bracket and the engine has to be loosened and the motor tilted forward to get to it. We expect better from GM. Wake up!
