My engine is knocking again my and my newborn and I were stranded on the side of the highway for two hours! The engine light came on and my car started to overheat, decelerate, and then it turned itself off and locked up!!! I have had it with this car!! Has anyone gotten the lemon law on there 2000 malibu? i'm gonna sure try after this!!!!!!

I am really tired of fixing things on this car. It is a nice riding , relatively smooth riding car but it just isn't reliable. This problems has arose one at around 110,000 miles and now again at 140,000 miles. When I took it to the dealership at first they didn't figure it out. The bad thing is that they won't fix anything until they can reproduce the error while driving it. And needless to say it doens't stall for them when they drive it so they can't diagnose the problem. Last time they fixed it, it was the MAP sensor... not MAF... MAP... and that seemed to fix it for 30,000 miles, not now it is doing it again and they keep test driving it, but it won't stall for them.
If it wasn't paid off it would have been traded in already... but having no car payment is so nice.

I've been stuck many times. While driving the car, it would stall and shut off while driving. The first occurence was two years ago traveling back home over a 150 mile radius. Imagine that! the biggest scare has been the dealers after taking it in for service don't have a clue without the check engine light coming on or complete (deadline) in-op. Shifty GM and now America no why we lose to foriegners in the car race. I'll still say a prayer for the GM workers that lost there jobs!

My 2000 Malibu Lemon engine quit on interstate; 1st time @ 80,000; leave short time and it restarts then runs 1/2 hour quits; repeated over and over; mechanic changed fuel filter & OK for another 80,000 then quits, again on multi lane highway; This time changed fuel pump & filter; so far OK but can not trust car for long runs. Note that in both cases the computer read out was ` No Problem ' Duh ?

Have had several people look at this car. Things left suggested and not tried: New computer $300 + labor, new Fuel Pump and line $1500. We have been told it's possibly a hole in a line and that air is getting in the line. Also that when the battery died unexpectedly and was replaced that the connections were incorrectly mounted and could have caused a short in the computer.
I have been googling everywhere and can't find out a fix. I am running out of "Try this" money and need some serious suggestions from someone who has found a way to fix this problem.

THE CAR DRIVES FINE AND THEN FOR NO REASON COMES TO A PRETTY SMOOTH STOP AND SHOTS OFF BY ITSELF..... I SHIFT TO NEUTRAL WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL MOVING AND THE ENGINE RPM MOVED JUST FINE BUT WHEN THE GEAR WAS SELECTED THE CAR WOULDN'T ADVANCE AT ALL THE RPM MOVE EITHER TO 500 TO 700 RPM. THE DEALERS DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG ( YEA RIGHT ). THE CAR TURNED OFF AROUND 5:15 AM AND I CAME HOME AROUND 7PM AND THE CAR STARTED FINE NO PROBLEMS..

FIRST OF ALL, I WAS OVERCHARGED BY POTAMKIN CHEVROLET DEALER IN MIAMI, FLORIDA FOR THIS VEHICLE. I PURCHASED A USED 2000 MALIBU. THIS CAR HAS HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET, A REPLACED OXYGEN SENSOR, FUEL INJECTION PROBLEMS, FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT AND RADIATOR FAN CHECKED NUMEROUS TIMES. I'VE TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE DEALER OVER 4 TIMES AND SOMETIMES THEY ARE NOT AWARE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS F--CKING CAR. I REALLY AND TRULY FAULT THE GM DEALERS FOR TRICKING THE CONSUMERS INTO BUYING THIS VEHICLE. GM REALLY NEEDS A SERIOUS ASS WHIPPING. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS CAR BECAUSE I FEEL AS THOUGH I'VE BEEN DEALT A BAD HAND AND SOMETING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After paying for this and having a new fuel pump put in and the seal replaced on the manifold for the cooling system. I had to check my water in the car weekly, and on top of that I broke down on the Interstate with a infant ( granddaughter) cause my fuel pump went out. My fuel pump only had 54,000 miles on the motor. I can't afford another car at this time so I have just drove this car and tried to get my money worth from all the expense of just repairs. I bought this car used and I was sold a lemon. The dealer ship here in my home town I believe knew it and like most of them do. It's a commission is all we are.
