The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet S10. The contact stated that both rear wheels on the four wheel ABS independently lock and stick. Speed was not a factor. The brake pedal extends to the floor when depressed and does not release. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. The dealer stated that the calipers and brake fluid level were fine. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 00V055000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The current mileage was 81,578 and failure mileage was 81,078.

: the contact stated while driving 5 mph and applying the brakes, the pedal became locked by the ABS system. This caused the pedal to pulsate as if it was sliding on ice, but the roads were dry. The defect also created an increased stopping distance. The vehicle ended up crashing into guardrails which caused damage to the front side of the truck. A police report was taken. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that there was a defect in the ABS system causing the pedal to lock. There was a recall #05V379000 regarding the service brakes:hydraulic:antilock, however the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.

Within the last couple of weeks whenever I am coming to a stop at slow speeds, less than 10 mph, my anti lock brakes do not allow the vehicle to stop. I have gone into a number of intersection and pass stop signs. This happens in reverse or drive. I have removed the ABS fuse and have not had any problems. Now my ABS light stays on but the vehicle stops. The dealer said that the front hub bearing assy's are loose but the longtime repair shop I always go to can find nothing wrong with the bearing assy's. I think there is rust and corrosion on the brake sensor mounting surface and have a copy of a tsb to give to my garage to hopefully try and correct this potentially dangerous problem.

(1) driving on a dry, sunny, summer day. I was braking for a stop sign. (2) ABS kicked in unexpectedly when vehicle slowed to somewhere below 10 mph. This had happened before, but this time it nearly prevented the vehicle from coming to a stop. Almost caused me to enter a busy intersection with cross traffic approaching. (3) ABS was disabled by removing the appropriate fuse. No further action taken. However I recently noticed the similarity between this incident and the symptoms described in NHTSA campaign id number : 05V379000 for full-size Chevy trucks.

I am having the same problems with my antilock brakes as other GM trucks are having with the exception that I have an S-10 instead of a fullsize truck as mentioned in the newspaper article from May 27 in the detroit news. I would like to know if there is going to be anyone looking into the S-10 of having the same problem. I have had three near misses of an accident at slow speeds and every time its the same problem. I really think GM needs to address this problem before somebody gets seriously hurt. Thank you in advance for your help.

The brakes also pulse when turing sharply into a parking space. Braking disatance is always extended when this happens. I have had several close calls. The dealer said that was the way it was supposed to operate.

I was parking my truck in my apt parking structure after work on 9/14/02, upon finding a parking space I made a 3 point turn to get into the parking space. I reversed then stopped and placed the truck in drive as I was about to pull forward into the parking space. At that point I barely touch the gas expecting to coast into the space and then suddely the motor just started revving up. I didn't think twice and just jumped on the brake with both feet but the truck wouldn't stop. We ended up jumping the cement parking stopper on the ground, which lifted the front end into the air about 2-3 feet, and sent us smashing into the block wall directly infront of us. I now have $2,200 worth of front end damage, and am really worried about driving that truck again.
