Rusting away underneath the doors on both sides. Rocker panels need replaced. Rusting away on both rear fenders. It costs over $1000 to buy a rocker replacement panel for one side To totally replace the rockers on both sides will run over $5000. Chevrolet has always been bad about rust on their pickups. You would think after all these years they would do a better job. I always kept my truck clean inside, outside and underneath. Looks like I wasted my time. But I am a glutton for punishment, I will prob buy another Chevy or GMC pickup because they have the best looking and mechanically sound trucks other then rust problems.

Started getting bubbling in the paint around the rear fenders at about 90,000 miles in mid 2007. Had the bodyshop grind out the rust, spray on a rust inhibitor and add fendor flares...works for me.

MY 2000 silverado has paint bubbles on both rear fenders and starting to rust. I called my local dealership and they stated there was a bulletin sent out about this (not a recall). I asked what did this consist of since i didn't receive one. The manager stated that the silverado may develop paint problems and that if someone came in they would "take care of it" however being that the bulletin expired i was out of luck even though gm knew there was and still is a problem. In other words tough luck. Buy Dodge!!!

Silverado 4.8

I brought this complaint to chevrolet and they said it was from customer usage! I have rust through on both cab corners, rocker panels, and bed sides. I went to chevrolet and they said they would investigate it and let me know what they could do. First i will tell you that i was at the end of a 6 year warranty but i only had 73,000 miles so they said that they would check on the in-service date and try to get it fixed for me. We went through steps with the warranty and they had me take it to a body shop of chevrolet to get a cost on the repair and they said it was rust through from the inside and should be covered.

The rep from chevrolet said she would not hint as to what they were thinking until they decided on what to do. Finally i recieved a phone call from her that they were going to cover it in full and the dealership would get in touch with me. The dealership called and the service manager told me to bring it down so they could order the parts and get me an appointment for repair. I brought the truck to the same body shop of the chevrolet dealership and they looked at it again and said they were going to order the parts to fix the rusted problems ($5600.00). I then recieved a phone call from the service manager and he wanted me to bring it to them so they could take pictures. I did just that and they said that they just needed the photos for thier warranty report. I then recieved another phone call from the service manager to come to the dealership for pictures again. I brought it to them the secound time and he took the pictures a second time. I asked him what was going on and he told me that they could not see the first pictures. I asked if their was a problem and he said that they were considering a buy back. I then recieved a phone call from chevrolet (the same woman that said they were going to fix everything) and they told me that they decided not to fix it and that it was due to customer usage.
