Silverado LT 5.3L

Check engine light is on and stays on. Had it diagnosed and was told the fuel evaporator canister had to be replaced. Already replaced the purge valve. Did more research, this is a common problem. Costs about $300 -350 to repair.

Silverado LS 4.8

Was annoying to have the check engine light on all the time. I read on one of the forums that these can fail if you top up your gas tank while filling up.... just finish once the handle clicks off. I replaced the existing vent solenoid / filter assembly with a single port solenoid, AC Delco PN 214-2149. Way cheaper and has been great ever since.

Silverado LS 5.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,531 miles

Check Engine Light (AGAIN) Code P0449 Evap Solenoid Vent Valve Replacement and throttle body cleaned for the second time in the life of the vehicle at 78531 miles - only 32,254 miles after these repairs were done once. Took it to the dealership and had repairs completed on July 12, 2013 at a cost to us of $495.97 (after a 10% discount offered because I complained to General Motors Customer Care). The dealership has been very kind and accommodating but I feel that General Motors Corporation has shifted their responsibility completely to the dealership and us the customer. Now exactly 14 days after the repairs were completed and paid for by the customer, the check engine line is on (AGAIN). Took truck back to dealership this time the code is P0442. Next Complaint to follow this one.

Silverado LS 5.6L

Third time at dealership for same problems. Code P0442 which states the following things:

Evap leak, Air Flow Condition, does not hold vacuum, defective or loose gas cap, evap canister or hose cracked or not connected, Purge Vent Solenoid Defective or a Vacuum leak at engine.

Dealership just called to inform it is definitely a defective gas cap, so I authorized them to replace the gas cap with an OEM gas cap at a cost of $30.29 to me. You say wonderful on $30.29, I say skeptical as this will be the 5th OEM Gas Cap we have purchased for this vehicle and the first time we replaced the gas cap it seemed to work and all lights went off only to leave us stranded 10-12 days later with no warning lights, on the side of a dark country road, when vehicle had to be pushed from roadway and towed to dealership.

Very skeptical this is the fix, as we have already done all of this. Now even worse is that I have to surrender my non-GM vehicle (this is the wife writing this) to my husband to bring me to work so he can take my vehicle to work and I don't like others driving my vehicle at all, not to mention that now I have to bum a ride again back to the dealership to pick the truck up. The other MORE aggravating thing is that we DO NOT ever take the truck anywhere together anymore, we always use my car and the reason for that is that we do not want to be stranded without one of us being available to rescue from the side of the road. Basically, we do not TRUST this vehicle at all for reliability or dependability. Plus we do not want to continue to have to do this every 30,000-40,000 miles. It's ridiculous and General Motors Corporation does not want to take responsibility and stand behind their product.

Last thing is, I was told by a GM Certified Mechanic that the 2007 Silverado had a faulty design change on the location and mounting of the solenoid and they know about it and they know how to repair it, but did nothing and continues to do nothing to assist the customers with this repeatative problem. Sad.

Not exactly sure where we go from here, but if we purchase a new truck it will NOT NOT NOT be a GM product. It is one thing to have a flawed design or defective parts and stand behind them, but it is totally different when they know and refuse to make good on it.

Silverado LT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

Took to dealership and was told the truck was 500 miles over warranty for this problem. took it to my personal mechanic who called and found out this was an ongoing problem with this truck and with the new parts there was a diagram how to replumb the device so that it doesn't happen again. So apparently Chevolet knew of this problem but would rather the consumer pay for the modification than admit their engineering mistake and take care of it themselves
