CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Silverado has no defect trends, which is a very good sign now that it's more than a few years old.

A couple model years back, the 2007 Silverado has an oil consumption defect at low mileage (~50k miles) — so far there's only a very few reports of the same problem with the 2009 Silverado.

The 2009 Silverado received poor side impact ratings on models not equipped with the optional side air bags.

I have a 94 blazer and the dashboard is a fine piece of maple. I should have known better but thought GM may have gotten a handle on this. I love my '09 Silverado. I have spent plenty on upgrades, leather seats, wraps and 20" wheels. This dash was not something I nor any true Chevy fan should have to tolerate. My buddies drive their Tundras and Fords and NEVER have to defend such shoddy workmanship. GM should be ashamed and make restitution for this. My son has just purchased a 2010 Silverado and I know what he will have coming and it sickens me that he followed my path down this sh*t trap. I have purchased a new, from dealer, dash but have yet to install it. Now the shroud around the cluster has cracked and I need to find one of them What a sh*t shower.

The dash in my truck has been disintegrating piece by piece. I have tried to take care of it and have used good products to keep it clean and protected. Even with regular maintenance the dash has cracked into a big mess. Now there are huge chunks missing and sharp edges that I have even cut myself on. Even the internal structure of the dash is starring to crack and fall apart. I take care of my vehicles and even with regular maintenance the dash has fallen apart. This problem is completely unacceptable and Chevrolet should be embarrassed that they put this into their product. I have a 1968 Impala with the original dash that is in better shape than my 2009 Silverado.

I feel like when you pay good money for a vehicle and you take excellent care of that vehicle taking it back to the dealer for service when required and then you notice one day you have a crack on the passenger side by the airbag and then later you discover one on the driver side it's dishearting. I feel GM needs to make this right with it's customers.

cracked dash cracked dash

After searching for a remedy for this problem and finding it is a common issue with other Chevy owners, I became more aggravated there has been no recall. To top it off, I received a recall notice regarding the airbags which was dated July 2016. The passenger side dash is cracked in the area of the airbag, which raises safety concerns that much more. Time to step up GM.

cracked dash

A couple of years ago , I took my Silverado to Car Max in hopes of selling and getting something smaller. When the appraiser came back and gave me a quote and mentioned the dash board needing replacement, I told her there was nothing wrong with my dash. As we were walking to my truck so that she could show me the crack on it , she mentioned that this was a common problem with GM and Chevy trucks. When I saw the crack I was surprised and pissed!

I have a primary vehicle and this truck is for recreational use. To have a vehicle that is not even five years old and have the dash cracked like that, What next?? I have vehicles much older than that and the dash is intact. of course the warranty had expired by the time we were made aware of the problem, so we would have to pay for the replacement. Since IT IS A KNOWN AND COMMON PROBLEM, you would think The manufacturer would have already RECALLED these vehicles and have them replaced at no charge.

I have a very busy schedule and hadn't had the time to complain . I have periodically checked for recalls and am VERY DISAPPOINTED that Chevy hasn't taken any action on this. Especially since the crack is RIGHT BY THE AIR BAG....HOW SAFE IS THAT??!! Needless to say, if Chevy doesn't make this right, I will be looking at other manufacturers when I am ready.

After a quick Google search I found that almost all owners of 07-13 Silverado's Tahoe's and Sierra's have run into this issue and no Recall? After calling several local dealerships they provided numbers on how often they see it and almost all have 3-6 Trucks in this range come in per day for this... and yet no recall. GM Sickens me at this point and to have been blown off by them on this issue and asked to pay almost $1000 to fix it is sickening, if I do not get an appropriate response from this this last attempt, I will never buy another GM vehicle and be sure to share this opinion with my friends and family to prevent them from making a mistake going with a car company that doesn't give 2 s^&$s about their customers.

Silverado LS 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,698 miles

I have owned GM trucks since 1973 and never had any complaints about the vehicles. The truck before this was a 1996 GMC SIERRA with half a million miles on it when I sold it. Very solid truck with almost no problems. The Silverado has been more troublesome. The exterior door handles had to be replaced because the plastic fasteners broke apart. Rattles and squeaks. But now this is quite a different story. I've seen Dodge Trucks with cracked dashes but not Chevy trucks that are not even 4 years old! I hope GM will step up and take care of this problem. It seems there are quite a few of these trucks and SUV's out there with this problem.

Silverado LTZ 6.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,000 miles

I was cleaning out the interior of my 09 silverado and noticed 2 cracks in the dashboard above the airbag. I could expect this from a Dodge. I've owned 3 other Silverados before this one, 2 of them with nearly 200,000 miles and neither one ever had a cracked dash. Sad to say it but with the other problems I've had with this truck (oil pan leaking, driver window motor going out, seat heater not working) with only 63k on it, this will probably be the last Chevy I'll buy

Update from Jan 31, 2014: Took it in to my local Chevy dealer and they replaced the dash with a brand new one but I had to pay a $100 deductible

Cheap plastic area under the steering wheel cracked in three different places and a mount feel into the floor after getting in and hitting it with my knee. After looking at all the plastic pieces on the floor and now all the rattle that i hear at only 56,000 miles it makes me regret the purchase. I have already complained about oil consumption and electrical issues that is a pain to deal with.

3.) The cracks are 2ft. 8"inches apart in the same lower panel section

4.) I won't by any more GM Products in the rest of my lifetime I have left to live.

I have a 2009 chevy truck that is in great shape. I also noticed a cracked dash in the same place as others have mentioned. Today I noticed a new crack rigth next to the drivers side. I've also had the door latches replaced....inside and out because of the peeling chrome and peeling paint. I've ALWAYS bougth AMERICAn cars/ trucks....but I can tell you this....I will be looking somewhere else next time. Not sure why comapnies like GM don't understand that taking care of a cusotmer should be theri number one job...not posting profits.
