An increased 'whining' sound coming from the vehicle after high speed highway driving. This whine was apparent in the vehicle from time to time for nearly two years and was reported during service checks - no problem was detected by mechanics. When engine is hot during a slow down or pullover (service centres on Interstate or 401 HWY) the whine sound is very pronounced. At high speeds the sound was generally covered by passage of wind speed. The vehicle gave off a burning smell from the radiator after idling for 1.5 hours at border crossing on Apr 11. Around April 15th the battery low indicator flashed on and subsequently went off - the check engine light came on April 20th - the whine persisted throughout this period. At Dodge Service on April 21, they determined problem was the radiator fan module and replaced it at a cost of $507.00.

On May 9 the engine fan kept running intermittently after the ignition was off and van parked. May 10 the battery was absolutely dead and couldn't be charged since the fan came on and discharged the battery. Had vehicle towed to dealer service garage for repair - just been informed the relay needed to be replaced. Was this whole issue from the beginning a relay problem or radiator fan problem inherent in this model year? Anxious to know - vehicle is off warranty because of the high mileage although the problem of "whine" was reported within warranty period ( a year after new vehicle purchase). Like to hear more about this. The tow truck drive said he's never heard of a radiator fan going in any vehicle under 8-10 years old!!!!!
