AC blower contacts on ignition switch melted, caused smoke and burnt smell and connector. Had to replace ignition switch, and may have to replace connector. This is not an isolated problem, it is common.

wiring burning up

I have a 2005 Dodge ram that i purchased and finished paying for in January. Paid 5,000 For this truck and have had so many issues with it and have had to put about $1500 more into repairs. There was a couple of times that we got into the vehicle to go somewhere and the truck wouldn't start. We thought we had just left something on because the truck always started right up when we hooked jumper cables up to it. This is a truck that my husband mostly drives on the weekend. We hadn't drove the truck for about two weeks and then Saturday my husband took it to fix the control arm and lower ball joints on the driver side. When he was coming home, he noticed that the headlamps turned off then on and started flickering for a few seconds. He took it to have it looked at again and the mechanic did not see anything wrong with the vehicle, Mind you the mechanic fixed the tires, nothing to do with electrical. Sunday morning we drove to a store around the block from our house and home.. truck was running fine and no warning lights on... Monday about noon, i got a call from the police and fire department in Kenosha while at work,to tell me that they had to come to my house because there was heavy smoke coming from the hood of our truck. There was an electrical fire coming from the hood. They had to cut the cables to the battery to stop it and i have attached pictures to show the damage it caused! I am wondering now as to why this would have just caught fire and if there have been any other complaints of this nature? I am very frustrated and distraught by this? I do not know where to report this to or where to find out if there is a recall on this. Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

I have had the same problem four times now. 3 times my truck has been to the dealer. First 2 times it was $600 replace a burnt ignition switch burnt connector and wires and blower motor. The third time it was $300 because I bought the blower motor myself and replaced it. The following year same problem. AC went intermittent for a month or so then stopped working completely. I haven't taken it back because I'm tired of paying for temporary fixes every year.

I have purchased/owned Dodge Chrysler vehicles for the last 30 years. Because they won't recall this like they did in 2002 or at least sell a overlay wiring harness to fix the problem once and for all, this will be the last Dodge Chrysler I probably will ever buy. They lose a loyal customer over not addressing an annoying and possible dangerous condition for a fairly cheap recall. Their loss. I'm trying to see if I can find the 2002 overlay harness they used for the recall since Dodge won't sell it to consumers for truck years they didn't recall. Give me a break!
