The gas gauge suddenly stopped working a few months ago. There was no reason for it. I think the problem may be a short because the oil gauge stopped working several months before that. So there is a light constantly on the gauge and it is always on E. I have to fill the tank every week or so to make sure I don't run out of gas. I am taking the car to an electrical guy soon and I will hopefully find out what the problem is.

All of a sudden, my gas gauge is way over the full mark. I started the Envoy and watched the gas needle go way past the full mark and stay there. I turn off the vehicle and the needle went to just below full. I restarted the Envoy and the gas needle, once again, went past the full mark again. It just stays there now. I don't know how much gas is in the car. Think I need to get rid of the vehicle.

Envoy 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission

I have no idea how much gas is in my tank at any time. The gauge indicates various levels, even after I fill the tank. Most of the time it indicates it's empty and the low gas indicator is on most of the time. When this occurred, I visited a local GMC service dealer where I was told it was most likely the gas level indicator bracket and it would cost a ridiculous amount of money. I used my vehicle for work at the time & did not have the time to have it repaired - or the money. So, I use my mileage counter as a gas gauge.

This also occurred within a very short amount of time where the speedometer module failed & the 6th cylinder of the engine went but that will be provided in other complaints. I did receive a notice from GMC stating they would repair it at half the cost to me. Needless to say I am still using my mileage counter as a gas gauge.

fuel gauge reading empty

I think GMC should recall the Fuel Gauge issue. Just so that way I don't have to fix it

Envoy XUV

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

I bought an 05' GMC Envoy XUV new from dealer and after 3 years of driving, the fuel gauge became erratic, then stayed at 1/4 full no matter what amount of gas was in the tank until 6 months later it just died and reads no fuel all the time. Now I get a letter from GMC saying they will pay for 50% to repair, this is so not right. Apparently this is a widespread problem and should be treated as a recall by GMC. If GMC refuses to pay for the entire repair, I am going to sell this car and never ever buy a GMC again.

Im always putting gas in the car and i never know when im low or not. I have heard complaints from other owners who have the same problem. I hate going on long trips because i never know when I'm going to run out of gas. I waste money putting gas in my car. I was told it cost 900 dollars to get repaired. I cant afford to pay that amount. I bought the car brand new and in a years time i had a problem with my heating system it went out. I took it to the dealer several times. I found out that they had to put in a new switch there need to be a recall on the gas gauge.
