I just bought a certified used 07 GMC crew cab SLT Z71 with 33,000 miles. Around 35,000 miles my add oil light came oil. So I changed the oil myself thinking like everyone else that maybe the dealer forgot a qt of oil. I now run MOBIL 1 fully synthetic and around 38,000 my add oil light came on again. So i started checking around and have come to the conclusion that taking the truck to the dealer for a oil consumption test is only good for showing proof your 45,000 dollar truck consumes oil.
I have heard horror stories about dealers going into the motor and replacing parts with no fix. I think the problem lies with the ACTIVE FUEL MANAGEMENT which is GM's BABY and the only way it can be fixed is to turn the AFM off which voids your warranty. I am currently looking for a vortex max 6.0l SLT so i can get away from the 5.3 which i loved in my 2000 chevy. If i cant find one for the same payments i have now i'm going to request the dealer to turn off my AFM to see if it corrects the problem. If anyone has any input or suggestions please help.
