Sierra 1500 5.3L

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab 5.3 (Professional Grade). The Traction Control and Stabilitrac keeps coming up on the warning and says to service it. I took it to the dealer and asked if they knew what that was, he refused to answer but said to bring it in and they would fix it. I got out of there as quick as I could. It was oblivious he had no idea. I have talked to friend and family mechanics, and they do not know what that is. This problem has stopped just a quickly as it started in the past, so I don't have any idea what the fix is. Any help would be appreciated.

Sierra 1500 LT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 52,394 miles

I bought this truck new in Oct. 2006 from North county GMC in Carlsbad, CA. On Feb. 28 2014, I took it to this dealer for a routine service at about 50,000 miles (oil change, wiper blades), and upon arriving there, I told the "service representative" that there was a clanking and grinding noise coming from the rear of the truck at all speeds, and he should check what is wrong. When I picked up the truck that day, I asked about their findings of the noise in the rear of the truck. The same service tech. told me at that time "we found no problem, that noise is perfectly normal on these trucks". I went on my way, and the noise continued, and became more noticeable as time went on. I was getting concerned that something was really wrong and decided to take it to a specialty repair shop (Vista Drive Line, Vista, CA) and have it checked out. They found the the bearings in the differential to be grinding, the "cross pin" in the differential to be in an oblong bore, that was worn. Metal chips in the oil. The repair was as follows:

Timken bearing kit 99-08 W/ disc BRK Wheel bearing kit True Trac limited slip case Gm 85&86 30 Spl.

The whole problem could have been handled by the dealer, had they done a proper evaluation a few months earlier. For such a repair after such few miles points to defective parts being installed at the factory. I think GMC needs to own up to this defect, that most likely are in many vehicles they sold in 2007, and who knows how long.

With labor, oil etc., the repair cost men $1,239.28
