I'm not sure that I trust my GM service person when they tell me that GM says this is a known problem and it doesn't affect the performance of the car. It most certainly does affect it. When you purchase something this expensive and start off with hops and lunges and every day - and you're just supposed to be OK with that.

lunges, hard shifts

What a nightmare! As you can see in the photo, when the mechanic pulled off the pan, it was full of metal shavings! GM you need to get it together! These vehicles are way too expensive to need a whole new transmission replaced at 4 years! Why is GM's warranty so little? I have had to have several recall's fixed. We were on the freeway and the car had been "hard shifting" and jerking for several days. At one point, the car lost entire power and we were barely able to get it to the side of the freeway. I had my 4 kids in the car at that time. This could have been a tragedy if we were hit! There would have been no way I could get 4 small children out of the car on the freeway had I not been able to get it moved. Maybe GMC needs to start caring a little more about WHO is in the car and not the mighty $$$$.

Yukon Yukon Xl Denali 6.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

I purchased this vehicle used, but it only had 7,000 miles on it. It has a hard shift into first gear, and it has lunged forward before, as well. I ask the dealership about it and they said I could bring it in to have the sensors reset, but I have not done this yet. It is very annoying to purchase an expensive vehicle like this and have these problems. I previously drove a new Chevy Suburban and it also had a hard shift into first gear.

I think that this is something that both GMC and Chevy needs to address with these XL vehicles. For the price, we should have a smooth shifting ride at every speed. I love everything else about my Denali, you can't beat the comfort and amenities when traveling.

Yukon Denali

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

Car lunges forward when shifting, slams into reverse, down shifts really hard. Feels like the car is out of control. Bad vibration while driving like driving on washboards. Seems there is no remedy except a new transmission that GMC doesn't want to put in. Car is way to expensive to have this type of experience
