This appears to be a known/common issue with Honda Fits. They changed the 3rd gear to the 2nd gear from what I can assume is a faulty design.

problem #1

Fit Sport

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,480 miles

While driving at approx 55 mph, the check engine light came on and the D (drive) indicator light on the dash began flashing. I pulled to the side of the road and checked the manual which said that it was an "emissions" problem. Chyeah, ok. I restarted the car and the D indicator stopped flashing, but the check engine light remained on. I started down the road again and soon realized that I had no 5th gear (my Honda Fit has a 5 spd auto trans). I couldn't select 5th gear in "sport" mode using the paddle shifters either.

I took it to the dealer the next morning and they said before looking at it that a couple of the Fits had come in with a bad pressure switch and that sounded like the problem. They pulled the trouble code and sure enough, bad pressure switch. They told me it was completely safe to drive (5th gear was working again but the check engine light stayed on) and that the part should arrive in a few days and to bring it back then. They also apologized quite a lot and agreed that a brand new car with only 1500 miles on it shouldn't be having transmission issues...
