Engine stall. While driving the car at speed below 25mph during rush hour traffic on the freeway the engine suddenly stalled. All of the lights on the dash lighted up. I was able to get the car stopped, put it in park and it started up again as if nothing happened. This has occurred 3 times in the past 12 months. The two previous times were on a city street while making a right hand turn. This time it was on a straightway. All three occurrences the car had a minimum 1/4 tank of gas, was on a level surface and traveling below 30 mph. The car has been brought to the dealer on several occasions and they cannot find any fault codes. On one occasion there was one other Genesis brought in with the same problem on the same day.

Driving home on the 405 fwy last night my Genesis R-spec 5.0 lost all power, electrical and steering. Fortunately, I was on the right lane and was able to maneuver the vehicle off the fwy. I had no lights, no emergency flashers, complete shutdown of power. It was about 9pm and dark luckily it was not in a lane or this could have been fatal as I could not turn on any lights! extremely dangerous and have reported my incident to Hyundai customer care. Vehicle was towed to dealership pending diagnostics.

I was turning to park in my parking space and all of a sudden the car began to accelerate with such speed that I thought it would jump the curb and crash into my home. I was unable to stop the car and the brakes were unresponsive. It hit the curb and finally came to a stop with a terrible shudder/noise.

The car will not start when the temp outside is ~40 degrees F or lower outside. It will crank non stop (push button start) but won't ever start. Car battery is only two months old. Cranks fine when the outside temp raises back up to around 45 degrees F and up. While driving today on the interstate, on the bridge, the car randomly lost all engine power. Trying to step on the gas pedal would result in the car studdering. I turned on the emergency signal and just cruised into the side lane out of traffic. Turned the car off and on and noticed the RPM idled at 1500 RPM which is insanely high. I put it in 1st gear and gave it gas, and nothing happened. The RPM meter wouldn't go up. After a few more times of cutting the engine on and off and the engine wouldn't start a few times also, it finally started and seemed to work normally. Now the car has a check engine light on.

While driving home today my car killed dead which caused the power steering to go out while I was turning off FM1960 onto kenswick in humble tx which is a very busy street. This is the 3rd time that this has happened I wrote a letter back on 5-22-15 to Hyundai warranty department and have not been notified by them. This is very dangerous I could have been rear ended and god knows what else. Please have this matter checked into with Hyundai. Thank you very much.

This ihas happened 4-5 times. I was driving on a street, thank god, I was not on hwyway, engine just stalled and streering wheel locked. I was hard but, somehow managed to get on the curbe and avoid a crash. If this would have happened on freeway, it would have been fatal. I think, Hyundai sure know this problem exist in Genesis too. It is same problem ( symptoms) as described in Hyundai's sonata recall. I don't know what is hyundia waiting for. It is a serious problem with a $50,000 car. I have no trust on this car anymore. This would be my last Hyundai. I know, if I take car to dealership, I would hear response that, no issue found. Genesis has a serious engine problem with stalling.

The car just completely shut down. Fortunately, I had just turned for home on a 25 mph street so I was going slow enough that I could manage to at least get the car to the side of the road. Do not know what would have happened 15 minutes earlier if it had shut down on the busy interstate I was on. It did start back up again, but now am afraid to drive it anywhere. Have contacted Hyundai, but if there follow-up is anything like it has been in the past, it will be a waste of my time. They will just say that they cannot reproduce the problem and send us a coffee mug hoping that will resolve the issue. We have had numerous previous electrical issues: Such as car starting back up by itself after being shut off, the radio literally popping on and off, the radio locking on a station (you could change channels, but the same station kept playing), the nav turning on and off by itself. The car had been doing okay this year until this most recent incident where it just flat shut off. Do not trust Hyundai to solve the issue and it is to scary to drive. And I don't believe that there is a lemon law in this state. No matter what, I can assure you that this will be my last Hyundai.

This same issue has happened about 5 times over the last year. But 2 times in the last few weeks. Low speed with a slight incline in the road, the car completely shuts off. Had to coast to a stop put car in park and then restart. The restart is fine and the car drives as normal.

Upon starting my car the engine was revving.I thought it was doing that because it was extremely cold out. I let it warm up a little. I put the car in drive it begin to accelerate by itself going up to 40 miles while in a parking garage. I managed to finally stop the car by flooring the brake petal & emergency brake. I turned the car off and restarted it and it started revving again! I called the Hyundai dealership to report what had happened.

On 08/02/2014 at approximate 6 P.M., my 2012 Genesis R-spec 5.0 sedan completely stalled out as I was coming to a stop at a major intersection. There was no warning or indication of any issues up to this point. It took several attempts at starting the vehicle before it finally started and continued under its own power. This type of unexplained power loss could lead to a very serious accident. The engine warning light is currently not indicating any problems so I doubt if there are any trouble codes stored. I have owned the vehicle since new and it has always been garaged and never in a accident.

Genesis 6-cyl

My 2012 Hyundai Genesis 6 cylinder sedan has stalled since I bought it (leased) new two years ago. Each time I go to the dealer (oil changes, etc.) and ask them about it they say they have not heard of this problem and since they cannot recreate it when they drive the car they tell me there is nothing they can do. Just a short time ago my family and I were almost in a very serious accident - there almost certainly would have been a fatality if I had not left enough room when turning left in front of oncoming traffic on a state highway. As with all but one of about 8 stalls the engine cuts out as the car slows to at or just below 5 mph. This time oncoming traffic cleared me by inches as I muscled the turn without power steering and the car coasted to safety. This has become unbearable. I will be going to the dealership as soon as possible. This car stickered at $45K - I have had more expensive and comparably priced cars, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, etc., but have never had a problem like this! it did stall once at 45 mph but all other stalls have been at the point of almost stopping or, in tonight's case, decelerating somewhat rapidly as in a left turn from 55 mph. Please help with this issue. I cannot find anything specific on-line although apparently elantra's have the same issue(?). have found a few postings from other Genesis owners, but I cannot follow them - I am not a mechanic - they talk about turning "ESC" on and/or off; which I know is electronic stabilization control, but, I am not comfortable trying to strong arm a solution - especially for such an expensive car. Again, please, please help with this problem. I will go to dealership again, but I know what they are going to say...what else can/should I do?

Genesis 6-cyl

  • 30,000 miles
The common denominator for what I experienced has been that the car is moving slowly, 5-20 mph (7th or 8th gear), and you floor the accelerator while changing the lane (to merge quickly). All that happens for 1-2 seconds is that the car coasts at the speed you were going (absolutely no power is applied to the wheels), and you see the revs going up and the transmission shifting to a lower and lower gear (but not sending any of that power to the wheels), until it gets to the 2nd or 3rd gear and then your head snaps back as it accelerates very quickly (but 2 seconds too late). So instead of the expected takeoff you get 2 seconds of coasting while the car in the lane that you got into is getting uncomfortably close and has to brake to prevent an accident. This is extremely dangerous and unexpected.

In 2011 I leased a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. On January 25.2013 when my car suddenly stopped. I called aaa, they came out and did a diagnostic check on my battery and told me it was fine, that something in the computer, most likely the alternator was draining the battery. On June 9th 2013 while driving my vehicle in traffic at approximately 50 mph my vehicle completely shut down. I came to a stop and it started up again. I proceeded to drive approximately 3 more miles at 45 mph, my vehicle again completely shut down, no steering no brakes. After coming to a complete stop I proceeded to the nearest service station and again contacted aaa. They came out, did a check on my battery and told me the same thing, something in the system is draining the battery. On July 8th 2013 it happened again. Aaa came out jump started my car and advised me to take it to the dealership. I drove my car to planet Hyundai on.w. sahara ave. In las vegas, Nevada and told them of my problem, I left the vehicle with them. The next day they told me that they replaced the battery. I made them aware of the stalling in traffic issue weeks before, I spoke with a certified tech who told me it was absolutely not a battery issue and that person called Hyundai service department and told them the same thing. I contacted Hyundai customer service and spoke with jacqueline who after conferring with planet Hyundai told me they were unable to duplicate the problem and they could do nothing. To work with the dealership. The head of the service dept. Told me that the Genesis has a sophisticated computer and these things could happen, they tested the car and could find nothing and would provide no further explanation.. I told Hyundai customer service that this is a safety issue, . Hyundai provided me with a case file # 5871296, I requested they send it to me.
