Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Sonata has a seriously defective engine that seizes without warning. It was awarded the dubious honor of being the first CarTalk / CarComplaints Turd of the Week in late September 2015.

A class action lawsuit was filed in May 2015 against Hyundai that claims the 2.4L Sonata engine is defective. More info here.

Jan 28,2011 I drive a Hyundai 2.0 turbo bought about a month ago. About 2 weeks ago on the freeway I was making a lane change, I had to make a sudden correction due to me noticing a car in my blind spot. There was almost loss of control when I tried to correct the car. I have been driving various cars from VW gti to gms and Ford for 32 yrs. Car has 1100 miles on it! 2011 Hyundai Sonata warning: It was my most dangerous driving experience! 100% true.

Test drove a 2011 Sonata limited turbo and while at highway speeds the car pulled to left constantly! you had to keep a good grip on the steering wheel to keep it going straight. You could literally feel the steering wheel fighting you to go to the left! needless to say, we did not buy the car.

Car pulls dangerously to the left, predominantly at highway speeds, however can occur at lesser speeds. If wheel is let go at highway speed, car will immediately dart towards the median from any originating lane. Two attempts to correct issue at dealer have not fixed problem. Dealer stated he has seen same problem in another Sonata turbo, but has no fix. First call to Hyundai regional office resulted in delivery of a "special tool" to fix supposed alignment problem to dealer without any success. Three subsequent calls to Hyundai have to this point gone unreturned. Hyundai is playing "dumb" to this dangerous issue.

When the steering wheel is in the center, the car will not go straight forward. Instead it pulls to left itself. This is not safe, I hope the government can check this or let Hyundai check it.

Sonata

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata limited turbo. The contact stated that when driving at least 50 mph, the vehicle would abnormally pull or drift to the left beyond the contacts control. In addition, the steering wheel was not properly aligned or angled correctly and sat abnormally to the left. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle would need an alignment, adjustment to the steering column and a reprogramming of the computer. The vehicle was repaired but to no avail. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 100.

2011 Hyundai Sonata turbo SE pulls very heavily to the left. Pressure needs to be applied to the steering wheel in order to keep the vehicle straight. This is extremely tiresome on extended drives. Arm muscles begin to hurt having to apply pressure to hold the steering wheel straight.

I bought a 2011 hyundia Sonata 2.0T in Nov of 2010 that when I drive at highway speeds there a strong pull to the left. If driving in the left lane of an interstate a firm grip on the steering wheel is required. At slower speeds the left is still noticeable but not as strong. This car has been returned to the dealer three times for alignment, tire pressure check, and tire rotation without fixing the problem.

I have a Hyundai Sonata 2011 limited. The car pulls dangerously to the left during operation at high way speeds. The only way to correct this while driving is to jerk the steering wheel to the right half of an inch every so often during highway operation. It seems the car refuses to go straight. This is a brand new car.

2011 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T steering issues - pulls to left. Vehicle constantly pulls to left regardless of slope or crown of road or traveling speed. Pull is extremely noticeable under the slightest bit of acceleration. Problem is easily duplicated with eco mode on or off, as well as ecs traction control on or off, or regardless of gear car is in. Car has been doing this constantly every day since the day I bought it and drove it home. Took back to dealer service after a couple days, and they admitted there was a problem, realigned wheels, and reset electronic steering, but the problem still exists. Problem is very serious as it causes great fatigue and strain on carpal tunnel in my wrists and arms while driving. Driving car takes a constant effort to hold wheel to right just to correct the steering and keep car going straight. Please investigate this before someone is seriously hurt or killed. There are many many many Sonata owners complaining about this same thing but Hyundai has not fixed the problem, and acts as if this is considered "normal".

Sonata 4-cyl

Purchased a 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T (limited w/ nav) in November, 2010. From the onset, the steering had a distinct and significant pull to the left. The steering wheel would always be slightly turned to the left. Returned car to dealership service department mid December to be corrected. Dealer stated that the alignment was adjusted and it was corrected. The steering problem returned immediately. Returned car to dealership a second time in early January. Car is currently at dealership. The dealership stated that corporate Hyundai engineers acknowledge the problem, but do not have a permanent solution. The steering issue requires constant compensation to the right to prevent the car from unintentionally moving to the left. It occurs mainly during acceleration and at cruising at highway speeds. It should be noted that it is not as noticeable during hard acceleration as it is with a normal linear acceleration. The left pull is reduced when weighted with additional people in the car. The pull, though constant, varies in force. At times, it is very strong and occurs even when ¿rolling¿ with without any acceleration, e.g., stop and go traffic. Because the steering issue has not been fixed and because there is not a permanent solution for a widespread problem, it is a public safety issue that must be addressed. The car significantly pulls to the left during normal driving conditions which is a design defect with potential danger.

I purchased a 2011 Hyundai Sonata SE turbo on November 22, 2010. Within approximately two to three days of driving the vehicle, I had problems with the vehicle severely pulling to the left. I notified my local dealership from where I purchased the vehicle and brought the vehicle in to have it checked out. I was informed that the steering column was off centered and that I would need to have a wheel alignment done. I had a wheel alignment done and the same day that I received the car back, it was still pulling to the left. I notified the dealership once again about the problem at which time another alignment was performed. Once I received the vehicle back the vehicle was still pulling severely to the left and now the low tire pressure light came on. While driving this vehicle it is a constant fight with the steering wheel just to maintain a straight path. Simple things such as using one hand to turn on the blinkers or I.e. windshield wipers causes the vehicle to pull to the left. I am concerned about my safety while driving this vehicle and feel as though this problem need to be addressed immediately. Please help concerned driver.

2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T limited pulls to the left. Took it back to the dealer, they claimed it was aligned, toe in checked and it still pulled to the left. Then they rotated the tires and claim it is fixed. It still pulls to the left almost all the time. I bought the car the last day of December. 26.1K spent and I have to hold pressure to the right so the car will track straight.
