I bought a 1998 2wd Isuzu Rodeo from a private party six months ago. Since I bought it, I have been experiencing a loss of braking capability in some circumstance (every day, mainly when the engine is cold) that resulted in extended stopping distances and continuous illumination of the ABS warning lamp. My garage mechanic told me this issue is due to the ABS coil integrated module that needs to be replaced and that there is a recall on it for 1998-1999 Isuzu Rodeo vehicles (campaign no. 02I-002, campaign bulletin SB03-09-S001D, NHTSA campaign id number: 02I002000). I called two Isuzu dealers but they told me there are no open recalls for my vehicle VIN#. I don't understand why my 1998 Isuzu Rodeo is not included in this recall.

The contact owns a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo. Approximately three years ago, the contact received a recall notice for her antilock brake system. The mechanic would not perform the repair and stated that she needed to have her carburetor replaced. The repair would cost $2,000. The contact stated that she was involved in a crash approximately one year ago because her brakes locked. As a result, she crashed into the preceding vehicle while traveling 35 mph. The woman she struck stated that her neck was injured, but she did not file a claim. The contact's insurance Agency paid for the damages. The contact had to get her vehicle totally rebuilt. A police report was filed. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 95,000 and failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact received a manufacturer's recall 021-002 concerning ABS brakes. When she contacted the dealer, they said they did not have the part. Later, she scheduled an appointment and had to cancel it. When she called to reschedule the appointment they told her they had the part. Before the appointment they had to reorder the part. The consumer complained about an ABS brake problem. The brakes did not hold. The ABS light came on since June of 2005. On July 15, 2005 the brakes failed, causing consumer's vehicle to lightly hit another vehicle. No police report was taken.. when she took vehicle to the dealership, they cleaned the ABS sensor because it was corroded. The ABS light went off, and the brakes worked fine until September 29. 2005, and it almost caused another accident. After she took it to the dealer to be checked again, they said that it was a problem with the ABS.

My elderly father was driving the 1998 Isuzu Rodeo on I-78 West bound when the breaks failed. My father said it was as if the ABS came on and prevented the brakes from working. The brake faliur resulted in a collision with the the car infront twice. At the time no injuries were reported however my father has experienced pain in his shoulders. After investigating how the brakes could fail on the internet I came to learn that this particular model of Isuzu Rodeo had been recalled due to ABS brake faliur. This was the way I came to learn of the recall. To this date Isuzu has never contacted me regarding this recall. I have made mulitple attempts to contact clode at Isuzu customer relations his phone number is 1800 255 6727 ext 7417. We have exchanged phone messages but have not bee able to speak. I wish clode would make an effort to reach me. We made an appointment with buhler Isuzu at vall homes NJ to have the problem resolved. We took the car to this dealer today however they are unable to repair it due to lack of proper equipment on their part. I am filing this comlaint after making multiple good faith attempts to resolve this problem. I am hearby making it known that I will no longer be responisble for any consequences after this automobile leaves buhler Isuzu with or with out the said repairs. The court date for this accident is on Sept 22 05.

When the brakes are applied it has a relatively long stopping distance compared to other vehicles. Fortunately Isuzu launched a recall campaign to address the problem and the ABS module was replaced but the problem is persists. I wrote to the manufacturer informing them of the problem but I have heard from them since then.

Problems with ABS system on 1998 Isuzu Rodeo. The ABS light illuminated and stayed on. The consumer received a recall notice for the ABS (02I-002) and took the vehicle to the dealer to be repaired. When the consumer picked the vehicle up she noticed that the ABS light was still on. The dealer failed to give the consumer an invoice indicating what was repaired/replaced. The consumer contacted the dealer who informed her that there was probably some other problem with the system and to bring the vehicle in for service. The consumer feels the problem should have been repaired the first time.

After recall repairs were done, the ABS light remained on. When the consumer asked why the light was still on the service rep said that the problem was with the sensors. The consumer refused additional work. Months later the vehicle's brakes squeaked so bad that an independent shop refused to do the vehicle's state inspection. The consumer attributes the persistent squeaking with the initial ABS safety recall 021-002. The consumer request that the manufacturer repair the sensors.
