Wrangler Unlimited V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 53,438 miles

The engine sputters then stalls, when you restart the engine it revs out of control 7000rpm+. The only way to avoid hitting something is to clutch and shut the key off. on restarting the engine it revs up to 7000 rpm again. i tried to restart the Jeep 4 or 5 times and out of control reving each start up. Had the vehicel towed to the dealer and when they tried to start it hours later it was ok again. This problem has happened on two separate times and seems to be an intermittent problem. If I was on the highway there would have been an accident for sure. Has anyone out there had this problem? Step one try replacing the throttle assembly 700$

Update from Jul 30, 2016: After doing some research (and there is lots of material) I believe the problem lies in the TIPM totaly integrated power module. The information stated there was a recall in 2007. I asked the dealer if there was a recall / no answer. If I replace the modual as well it will be over $2000 with no sure fix. If anyone out there has a suggestion I would appreciate the help. Rob

Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,500 miles

2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara will be driving down the road and all of a sudden the wipers will go off by themselves. Shortly after, the engine will stall. Will happen at any given time/speed. Can't accelerate or steer (wheels lock up too) so it is very dangerous. Had TIPM reprogrammed in 2010 with the recall, and then again on October 16th, 2015. After driving home from the TIPM being "fixed" again, wipers came on, and engine stalled. This is a serious issue and needs to be addressed by Chrysler. And also paid for by them.
