2011 Jeep Wrangler started this whole mess almost two years ago. I get on the interstate and start going over a bridge & immediately, out of the blue, the steering shimmies & I have to merge over to the shoulder. There was no control and over steering. I go in for inspection on suspension and was told all is fine and to replace steering gear box. I do. It doesn’t fix nothing.

Go back for another suspension inspection today - an $835.00 estimate to fix what I am told is the dampener, tie rods, drag links, ball joints. I over the course of this two years have new tires, new brakes & rotors, rear Calipers, steering dampener, sway bar links, steering gear box... and still cannot get rid of this problem. 3000.00 later and they want another 835.00 for the stuff they said wasn’t the problem 3 months ago when they did the steering gear box.

My dream vehicle is just a nightmare that doesn’t seem to have an ending... I’m gonna pay that 835.00 next week and have the work done but I also ain’t holding my breath, nor can I ever trust this vehicle on the interstate - so cheers to all of us who own $32,000 vehicles and can’t go nowhere. Came here hoping someone found a remedy for theirs but I have read a lot of complaints and don’t see one 🤦🏼‍♀️

The dealership told me to replace the steering gear box to fix the problem (it did not). I replaced the sway bar links, brakes & steering dampener... but still no fix. Now the dealership says it’s the ball joint links, ball joints and steering dampener. Every time I notify the manufacturer, they send me back to dealership for another bullshit diagnosis... mind you that when I had the gearbox replaced, they told me my ball joints and suspension was fine.

2 months later after the gearbox didn’t fix the death wobble, it’s all of a sudden my ball joint & steering dampener... The steering dampener was already replaced, yet they say I need a new one 🤦🏼‍♀️.

I bought this 2011 Jeep Wrangler brand new paid for the life time warranty from Chrysler. I have off roaded this jeep a bit, but not on rocks and trails, just dirt roads on my property. The problem started after 8500 miles, changed the wheels and tires. The jeep sits in the garage and up until 2017 I start driving regularly, now the first time the Death wobble was felt, I was not sure of what it was. I took it to 4Wheel Parts and they told me about this happening and that they could fix it. They aligned the jeep and replace a brand new steering stabilizer with a different one. They charged me $750 and it seemed to be fine up until perhaps the wheels got out of alignment. So after two years of driving the jeep, there is a particular bad bump on the 280 freeway in an on the crappie roads of Calif. When I hit that bump the steering wheel is like doing a back and forth and the only way to calm it down is to slow down. The dreaded Death Wobble is back. Jeep has a known geometry design flaw in it, but they will not admit it, since it is too expensive to bring all the Wranglers back in for a fix and a look at. I have 19000 miles on it now, I took it into Ross, Tire and they charged me $550 and the Death Wobble is back after only driving it 200 miles more. I am so sick of my Jeep Wrangler, it is a piece of junk, the worst car I have ever owned. My wife drives this daily and she hates it too. There are many YouTube videos about this and a lot of them think that they know how to fix, it is a bandage until the Jeep gets out of alignment and starts to do it all over again. I will replace everything that the videos talk about and it will cost me over $5K, but still Jeeper than buying a new car as this was supposed to be that car. Jeep Wranglers suck and the company that built this crap of a Jeep should be ashamed of themselves for putting out such crap.

I experience death wobble on the passenger side front wheel whenever I happen to hit 2 or three wavy bumps on the interstate at 50 mph or higher. It is worse when going through a left curve. When this occurs I must slow immediately to under 30 mph to regain control. This is very dangerous in moderate to heavy traffic.

I think I just bought a beautiful 2011 sparkling white 4 door Wrangler of my dreams... From a dealer that screwed me. I live in the country and don't drive far, about 5 miles to work so did not have opportunity to "explore" the wonders of the new Jeep. Soon as we go over a bumpy road with a little bit of speed, I thought I would loose my teeth, the wheels would fall off and the windows would crack. Not to mention what I did in my pants! Ok, once, perhaps an anomaly, twice suspicious, 3rd time I am now taking it to a very trusted mechanic. I am SO disappointed with this Dealership in OH, that I drove 200 miles to get to. (I live in PA). Traded in my 1st Jeep and cried... This just sucks! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Looks like this is a common problem. When it happened the first time, I had no idea what was happening, I thought my tire was falling off. I would not drive it again until told it was not dangerous. Well I am surprised that no one has been hurt. Luckily I didn't have anyone behind me when I had to pull over. I now refuse to drive it on the highway and this is my main car. The dealership was aware of this problem and knew this when we purchased it brand new but never told us about the issue. Now they want to charge us $700. and hopefully that will fix the problem. I will never trust it again and would like to sell it, but who in their right mind would want a vehicle with this problem.

In 2012, I bought a new 2011 Jeep Wrangler 4 door sport. At the 25k mile mark, my factory Sirius radio malfunctioned (I eventually had to replace this defective radio at my expense, but this is for another rant).

In 2014 and at the 45k mile mark, I experienced my first death wobble and it scared the hell out of me. I was driving 65 mph on the highway when I go over a minor bump in the road and the jeep starts to shake & wobble. As I was pulling over, the death wobble went away as i slowed down to 20mph. This continued to happen, so I bring the jeep to the dealership who tells me I need to replace a stablizer & some tie rods. So I pay for this service & when I get the jeep back, the wobble still exists. So I bring the jeep back to the dealership and they say I need a new "sway bar". So I pay to have them swap out the sway bar and when I get the jeep back, the death wobble still exists. I bring the jeep back to dealership and they now say I need new tires, I buy 4 new tires and although the jeep still shakes going over a bumpy road, i drive slow enough so it does not develop into a full blown death wobble. I put up with it, much like how I put up with the factory radio that only works 23% of the time....

Let's fast forward to 2016, one super cold morning my jeep doesn't start. I try to jump it off my my wife's Nissan Altima and my jeep comes sooooo close to turning over and starting up, but it just doesnt...even after charging the batter for an hour....So I call AAA to tow my jeep to the dealership. AAA comes out but doesnt bring a tow truck. Instead they bring a guy with a portable car starter jumper gadget. So AAA goes to start my jeep off this device. On its first try, the jeep starts but there is a VERY LOUD BANG and the engine is now making a knocking noise. I drive it to the dealership and they tell me a piston went thru the pan and i now need a new engine. THANK GOD i bought into an extended warranty on the engine and i was able to get a used engine installed for under 1k out of pocket expense.....When i get the jeep back after the engine swap, my 4W drive stick is loose as a goose & will not engage....and the death wobble is back and its meaner than ever. I cannot go over 60mph with out wobbling like weeble!

I bring the jeep back to the dealership and they say my cable that connects my 4W drive rusted out / is cut / and needs to be replaced. And they also said that I was MISSING 2 of the 4 BOLTS that hold my transfer case in place. After I get the jeep back. the jeep is running nice & tight and does not wobble over any bump now. I suspect that the missing bolts of the transfer case was the reason for the death wobble. But the dealership will not confirm this. I am still trying to get reimbursed for their missed attempts to repair...

If I didn't love driving my jeep so much, I would have traded this thing in my now. But its completely paid for and i have soft doors, soft tops, so many accessories......and i truly love driving this thing in all seasons...

I feel i truly got a LEMON on this vehicle, but i will drive it until it cant go no more...

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 45MPH, AND I EXPERIENCED A WOBBLE/VIBRATION/SHAKING IN THE STEERING. I SLOWED DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 40MPH, AND ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION.

A FEW DAYS LATER, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AGAIN AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH, AND MY JEEP STARTED VIOLENTLY WOBBLING/SHAKING/VIBRATION TO THE POINT WHERE I COULD BARELY MAINTAIN CONTROL OF MY JEEP. UPON SLOWING DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 35MPH, THE JEEP CONTINUED TO WOBBLE/SHAKE/VIBRATE VIOLENTLY TO THE POINT WHERE I HAD TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD. I CHECKED TIRES FOR LOOSENESS AND DID NOT FIND THAT THEY WERE LOOSE.

I GOT BACK IN MY JEEP AND CONTINUED TO MY DESTINATION DRIVING UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT AT APPROXIMATELY 35MPH WITH MY FOUR WAY HAZARD LIGHTS FLASHING BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID OF LOSING CONTROL OF MY JEEP. ONCE I GOT TO MY DESTINATION, I PROCEEDED TO PULL OFF THE PASSENGER FRONT TIRE TO CHECK FOR ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY THAT WOULD EXPLAIN THE WOBBLE/VIBRATION/SHAKING. NOTHING LOOKED DAMAGED/LOW ON FLUID/BROKEN SO I PUT THE TIRE BACK ON.

I THEN PROCEEDED TO A TIRE BUSINESS AND HAD ALL FOUR TIRES BALANCED AND ROTATED. THE WOBBLE/SHAKING/VIBRATION SEEMED TO IMPROVE BUT THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. THE JEEP CONTINUED TO WOBBLE/SHAKE/VIBRATE WHEN TRYING TO SLOW DOWN THEREFORE THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. THE STEERING STABILIZER HAS ALSO BEEN REPLACED WHICH SEEMS TO MAKE THIS ISSUE WORSE AND THE ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED.

I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT NOW DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES/CONCERNS.

There do not seem to be any solid fixes. We just keep replacing parts, hoping it fixes the problem but it keeps coming back. Jeep needs to investigate this and come up with a permanent fix and issue a recall.

My Jeep was bought brand new. The dealer added the lift as part of the purchase. Since I have owned it has had the "death wobble" issue. It's so bad now that I'm terrified I will crash resulting in a fatality or with serious injuries. It does matter how small the bump in the road is or how fast you are going. If you hit it, you will wobble. I rotate my tires regularly, balance them, and have had alignments. It's out of control that Chrysler/Jeep won't fix it.

Took Jeep to Indianola, Iowa Southtown Chrysler Jeep, explained the problem. Told them the wobble was so bad it jerked the steering wheel out of my hand at 55 mph. Steering wheel was turning right and left in a severe motion. Told them it was specific to curves or heavy bumps on the road. Mechanic typed on repair sheet, test drove, checked suspension, everything was tight. Suggest replacing steering damper and tires cupped bad.TSB on damper R&R steering damper and ordered 4 new tires.

I learned the next day when the tires were installed that they had received a service bulletin that if they received this type complaint, to change the damper. They friggin guessed, and if they had a service bulletin on this dangerous problem why was there not a recall?

Chrysler/Jeep knows about this problem but will do nothing about it because I was told "all you have to do is slow down and the wobble stops." HOW can I slow down on a parkway without getting rear-ended!!!!!! And what if I can't slow down quick enough??? Today the car was so out of control it carried me across two parkway lanes. THANK GOD the other cars were quick enough to get out of my way.

Chrysler/Jeep is waiting for casualties before they do anything and that's pathetic. I'm sorry I bought the vehicle!

Our Jeep has the death wobble at around 50 mph, usually in turns to left. Been to local dealership, they were friendly, took it seriously but could not find any problem. 99.9% of driving is pleasurable, but .1% of the time it is a danger to myself, passengers, and other drivers on the road. New tires, new alignment, no modifications to vehicle. undriveable, paying for vehicle I can't safely drive, with no solutions from Jeep. The extended warranty is worthless, with suggestions of replacing parts, my cost of course since dealership can find no problem. Is it time for litigation?
