Wrangler Sport Freedom Edition V6

On March 30, 2014, we purchased a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Freedom Edition Sport from Sunland Park Chrysler Dodge Jeep in El Paso, Texas. We are a retired couple in our late sixties and thought this would be the perfect vehicle for us, i.e. economical and long lasting. On Tuesday, July 22, 2014, I was on my way to Alpine, Texas. The Jeep was about four months old and had about 2,000 miles on it. About half way there, I pulled over on the side of the road for a minute. When I pulled back out, the vehicle made a thud and would not shift into second gear. I pulled back over on the side of the road. A friend came by a minute later and said he had the same problem with his Jeep and told me how to get it to shift. His suggestion worked and I was able to make it to Alpine. Once I got to Alpine and stopped again, the vehicle would not shift. At this point I called Jeep Roadside Assistance. A tow was arranged to the nearest Jeep dealership which was WestStar Autoplex in Monahans, Texas. WestStar called me when the vehicle arrived and said that they would call me when they had diagnosed the problem. On Friday, July 25, I had not heard from them so I called. WestStar advised that they had not looked at my Jeep, that they were running behind and it could be six to eight weeks before I got my Jeep back. I contacted my salesman in El Paso and he arranged a conference call with Jeep. Jeep confirmed the information with WestStar and agreed to tow my Jeep all expenses paid to El Paso so that it could be repaired at Sunland Park Chrysler Dodge Jeep on a timely basis. The transmission needed repairs and I was able to pick up my Jeep in El Paso the next week. I believe the computer code was “incorrect gear ratio”. Fast forward to Monday, January 30, 2017. The vehicle is 34 months old and has about 20,000 miles on it. I am on my way to Alpine to take my dog to the vet. I drive about six miles, stop at a stop sign and turn right. When I accelerated, the vehicle seemed to stall for a moment and again, would not shift. I pulled over, checked for traffic and made a u-turn to return home. At this point, chimes went off and the HOT OIL light came on. Once again, I pulled over and checked the owner’s manual. It said to let the engine idle in neutral for about 10 minutes. I did this and was able to make it home. I called Jeep Roadside Assistance and a tow was arranged to the nearest Jeep dealer which was now, Ram Country Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Fort Stockton, Texas. The Service Manager called when the vehicle arrived but explained that they would not be able to repair the transmission at that dealership. The computer code showed “incorrect gear ratio” and the vehicle was under warranty. Warranty work required that a certified transmission technician make the repairs and Ram Country did not have one. A tow would be arranged to take the vehicle to All American Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Odessa, Texas. It is now Friday, February 3, 2017. Our Jeep has arrived in Odessa and we have talked with the Jose. I believe he may be the Service Manager but not sure. He says they will diagnose the vehicle on Monday and give us a call. Not hearing from anyone, we call Jose on Wednesday and leave voice mails, numerous voice mails. No one calls us back. I leave a voice mail for the General Manager and he doesn’t bother to return my call. This continues on Thursday and Friday. Finally, frustration sets in and I contact Jeep. After explaining the situation Jeep calls the dealership, calls me back and says that Megan will be calling me. She also says that a new case has been opened and I will be contacted by a Jeep representative on Monday. I never hear from Megan. I call the service department and talk to Grayson who promises he will check on the status and call me back. No calls from anyone at All American Jeep all week. It is now Monday, February 13, 2017. Day 15. Our Jeep representative calls and I give her the details. I no longer have to deal with All American Jeep; Alison will be our contact. Alison is going to contact the dealership, get the status and call me back. It is now Tuesday, February 14, 2017. Day 16. Not hearing from Alison, I send her an email asking that my Jeep be towed to Sunland Park Jeep for repairs. At least I know my salesman there and that calls will be returned. It seems that no one at All American Jeep will return Alison’s call until he leaves a voice mail advising that a tow is being arranged. Jose calls Alison minutes after receiving her voice mail explaining that the transmission is in parts and the vehicle cannot be moved. My vehicle is stuck in Odessa and we are in Jeep hell. Here lies one of the problems. The transmission must be taken apart; pictures must be taken and sent to Jeep who will then decide if the transmission is to be repaired to be replaced. This is a Jeep requirement for warranty work Jose promises Alison and the pictures will be taken, sent to Jeep and we will have a decision by Thursday, February 16, 2017. On Friday, we are told that the transmission will be replaced. Progress or so we thought. Then on Monday we are told that no, the requirement to replace the transmission is 70 percent of the parts must need replacement and our vehicle does not meet that requirement. The transmission will be repaired. It is Monday, February 20, 2017. Day 22. We are told that parts are being ordered and should be there by Wednesday and our vehicle should be ready for pick up on Friday. Thursday, February 23, 2017. Day 25. No one at All American Jeep is returning Alison’s phone calls. Friday, February 24, 2017. Day 26. Alison is reaching out to managers at All American Jeep since no one will return her phone calls. Alison hears back from the dealership that the parts are in. Jose finally calls Alison back to advise that the transmission is being put back together and that the transmission will be put back in the vehicle on Saturday. Alison will follow up with Jose on Monday. Monday, February 27, 2017. Day 29. Alison calls with good news. Our Jeep should be ready for pick up by end of day Tuesday. I explain that it is a three hour drive from our home to Odessa. We do not want to make the drive if the vehicle is not ready. She says she understands and will call back on Tuesday to confirm. It is now Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Day 31. Alison has not heard from All American Jeep and again has reached out to managers at the dealership. I AM IN JEEP HELL AND CANNOT GET OUT.
