Wrangler Rubicon 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,800 miles

Rubicon 2016 722.6 trans. I have heart of the stories of repair work. My Jeep started doing this around 3,800 miles. It's symptom was stalling when placed in reverse when cold. Jeep kept my Rubicon for 3 day and said need tune up. I tuned jeep, replaced spark plugs, coil packs, sensors, even changed transmission pan.

Kept doing it. Jeep dealer said could be anything but problem wasn't that bad. To take it and wait for dash lights to surface in order to tell. At 49,000 miles, stalling worse than before . Jeep again states it could be anything and looked at motor and trans.

Jeep told me that nothing they could do unless obvious dash light. Finally took jeep to transmission shop. They didn't need any other info after testimony of stall in reverse. Said seal is bad in trans + some of the 722.6 trans are prone to have these problems with fluid behind torque converter getting two different oils in same converter, making it stall. He stated there are certain springs will break in the 722.6. He assured me that's one of it's problems. Problem is stator arm or stator support, pressure regulator valve needed looked it too. The turbine shaft ring need looked at also. The TCC control could be leaking/cross link. He said a lot of jeep as well as a bunch of other vehicle have this 722.6 trans. Jeep doesn't want to fix these issue bc it is quite expensive. Now the torque converter can get a small crack and cause some of problems.

Jeep will next own up to major recall, nor admit it in court. Just one visit to transmission shop... He stated right off.... Said needs rings! They shrink in winter cold by are fine in heat. If a transmission shop can tell you it's transmission upgrade kit to trans fail of parts.

Jeep dealer knows, the same thing on diagnosis but refuses to place complaint in file where it can be looked it. My warranty ran out at 6 yrs or 100,000 miles. They should have fixed issue instead of hiding facts of real troubles. It's amazing the trans shop are so good at just knowing the complaint.

Now after all of this twice a year Jeep diagnosis of nothing, l am having to either rebuild this trans or order one of 2 transmission shops and send a reconditioned one. $4500.00 for trans shop to rebuild or order a crated $2790.00 +650 install. If these trans shop know exactly what it should be and jeep has no clue? There are many 2016 Jeeps having problems with transmission. Mine has been doing it from 3800 miles to now 6 years later with 85,000 miles.

Jeep should have to say sorry? They didn't want to fix under warranty? But wait there is more!!!! After warranty ran out I took it by and they diagnosed it 1st time. Asking me when I can get it in shop. 7800 dollars Jeep place, 4500 transmission shoe, or internet trans rebuilt for 2790 shipping included both ways. Can we not come back on jeep for this sly of the hand?.

By the way, it's the Superior Jeep in Conway, Arkansas.

Wrangler V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 53,000 miles

This vehicle has not been modified nor off-roaded. My wife was driving, heard a loud noise, then smelled something weird. She pulled off the highway & then the vehicle would not move. I had it towed to a local Jeep dealer and was told that the transmission has a hole in it and the vehicle needs a new transmission and clutch assembly. Really? The transmission on a vehicle with 53,000 babied miles just blows up? The service manager told me that there is a recall of over 6000 Jeeps with transmission issues but my VIN is not one of them. However, they can put a new transmission and clutch assembly in it for just less than $10,000. I expect Jeep to cover this repair.

Update from Jun 3, 2022: Update... I repaired the clutch and transmission out of my own pocket even though the local service manager admitted that there were over 6000 identical pending cases registered with Jeep. Now the next Jeep illness.

For some time the vehicle has intermittently thrown a P0303 code - (misfire on cylinder #3). Due to Jeep's poor record of dealing with faulty components I took the vehicle to a reputable shop. They replaced the spark plug & coil pack on cylinder #3 as a first line of attack. Now, after further diagnostics it appears that there is a valve/head problem. I read of multiple cases similar to mine on the internet. Come on Jeep, stand behind your product.

Wrangler Unlimited 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 31,000 miles

This issue did not start with any warning. Was setting at a red light an the Jeep started to vibrate a little, than it sounded as though I had a diesel truck next to me. The sound was so bad it was hurting my ears, radio would not drowned it out. As I go home when I put the Jeep in reverse I heard what sounded like a owl.."hoot hoot". After doing some testing, found the hoot was when the transmission hits up to above 140 temp. The hoot was present when going from drive to reverse, stop to start and when going to a stop. Will hoot after temp reaches 140 in manual shift also.

Wrangler Wrangler V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 250 miles

Vehicle shifts like an old grain truck very clunky with no meshing or gear synchronization occurring especially a habitual and predictable grinding on the 1st gear to 2nd gear up-shift.

Also, it is frequently difficult to find reverse gear with double clutching frequently required. Dealer has shirked any responsibility to correct the problem going through the motions like they being helpful knowing full well of the issues with their defective NV3550 transmission, yet waste your time and produce no results.

Wrangler Sahara 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,647 miles

Jeep has 10,647 miles, not my first jeep, usually great cars. I turned to go to work and front end starting shaking like a death rattle as I go to the traffic light, the jeep made a high pitch sound and would not move at all. Pressing the gas and nothing. Car had to be towed to the dealership from the busy intersection. already out money for the tow and now dealer says they are so backed up they can't even have a tech look at if for a week. Meanwhile I'm out money for the tow, no car and no info on my car. Service at dodge/jeep dealer in Naples not that great, no offer for a loaner, nothing.
