Summary
Complaint Cracking and creaking noise from area of roof frame, C-pillar (inner) when driving on rough terrain. Cause Sheet metal sections in the area of the roof frame, C-pillar (inner) could cause noises due to tension or contact of the sheet metal. Remedy 1. Remove the headliner and detach the head airbag in the working area. 2. Park vehicle in the sun/heat and allow it to warm up. 3. Then perform a test drive; the noise complaints must be reproducible. 4. Insert a flat head screwdriver through the body-in-white opening in the upper area of the roof frame at a flat angle to the side wall until resistance is met. 5. Check that the correct position has been reached, i.e. that the screwdriver has made contact at the two sections of sheet metal causing the noise in front of the caulking. 6. Work on the noise-causing sheet metal sections through the seam in order to separate them. 7. Perform a test drive and check the effectiveness. 8. Perform the anticorrosion protection in the working area according to manufacturer specifications. 9. Install remaining parts.
