While driving my SL 500 I experienced a total brake failure. Could have been killed or killed someone else. Every red light on my dash came on including "total brake failure" "stop", "SBC", "ABC", "Service immediately"!

Called MB and they said it was probably the SBC Pump and it would cost approx. $2,600 to fix. I left it in the garage until this year when I saw that MB had extended the warranty on the defective designed SBC pump to 25 years and unlimited miles.

I had it towed to MB and they said it resulted from a battery that was low on volts. Not sure how they can even say this because my car was running at the time and the alternator would keep the voltage up. Even so, is it logical that I would even lose the hydraulic brakes or MB would design such a flawed system? They told me the codes do not come up in the computer to allow them to replace the SBC pump under the extended warranty.

I guess I will be left a $400 bill for the replacement of a car battery that I may or may not have needed and the fear that every time I have to brake I may experience a total failure and kill myself or someone else.

Seems to me this needs to be addressed properly no matter what the cost to MB.
