I was driving home from work when I began hearing a noise from my passenger side tire when I would brake. I pulled over to see if there was a flat, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I continued on the highway home and kept hearing noises when I would brake. I took the exit for my neighborhood; while I was on the access road slowing down to the speed limit, the passenger rear brake locked on me. I made it to a complete stop about 100 feet from the light at the intersection. After turning on the hazard lights, I tried to accelerate, but the car did not want to move. I ended up being able to move the car at a slow rate to the strip mall about a quarter of a mile away. I called for a tow, but all the ones I reached out to had an approx. Wait time of 2 hours and the dealership closed in 1 hour. While deciding what to do with the car, I noticed the ABS light was on. I was about 5 minutes from home and decided to drive the car onward. I took the car at a slow rate to try and ensure nothing happen. When I turned onto my street, the passenger tire blew out and the ABS light turned off. I drove the last few feet home and called a tow the following morning. The car is currently at the dealership in queue to be worked on.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, the pedal had to be pumped because the brake system failed to engage to stop the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle slid forward and the contact had to apply extreme force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 16V384000 (air bags). The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not included in any brake recalls or NHTSA action number: PE16017 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Two incidents, both light rain days, traveling speed limit, on a city street - while driving I came upon a situation where I was required to quickly apply my brakes. Once brakes were applied, the car did not stop as soon as it should have and hit the other car. Afterwards, anytime I had to try to stop, the brake pedal had to be almost to the floor before it would stop. The first time, I took it to be looked at and was told that the brakes were fine. The second time, I was coming upon a light that was about to turn red. I put on my brake and the car once again did not stop in the time that it should have.I was almost in the middle of the intersection before the car stopped. I had already had my brakes and rotors looked at so I knew that it was neither of those. For the remainder of my drive, I had to press the brake almost to the floor before it would stop. When I drove it again after work, 8 hrs later, the brakes were back to normal.

I was driving on country roads with snowy conditions, and when I started braking to make a turn, ABS engaged because of slippery roads, immediately thereafter I experienced a lack of braking power /a soft sinking brake pedal with little to no braking power. This is a traffic safety hazard, upon doing some online research I discovered that this is a common problem, the ABS control module, or the hydraulic control assembly has a sticking valve in the ABS system, routing the brake fluid through the ABS system instead of to the brakes, where it should go. Ford Motor Company should be issuing a recall for the safety of the vehicle owners, and for the integrity of their own company the ABS control module needs to be updated and replaced

While backing the vehicle down a snowy driveway the ABS engaged briefly. Moments later, I had to brake to allow an oncoming car to pass, and the brakes were suddenly very soft, pedal went almost to the floor and I had to take evasive maneuvers onto a curb to avoid collision. The brakes remained very soft and spongy, though they improved a bit with pumping.

After the ABS activates, the brakes go soft all the way to the floor and braking is difficult. It has happened on ice patches as well as hitting a rough patch of road. The malfunction makes driving incredibly scary as I do not know how long it will take to stop.

Soft brake pedal, pedal goes most of the way to floor to stop. Replaced master cylinder and pads. Informed that hydraulic control unit was bad as well(cost of an additional $1300). Concerned about the cost of repair and stories of others that had repeated failures of the hcu. Ford should replace unit for free after the first occurrence. I will pay for the repair once, but don't want to be bleed repeatedly.

Multiple times while trying to brake it takes longer than it should. If braking over man hole covers, it will feel like the brakes are skidding. Two times I have been in accidents where I had plenty of braking space and had the brake to the floor but still did not have time to stop. Both times were on highways

When depressing the brakes and engaging the ABS the pedal becomes spongy and goes to the floor. Sometimes pumping the brake brings up the pressure again but not always. I've heard it could be the ABS module gone bad.

The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. While driving 35 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle took an excessive amount of time to slow down. The failure recurred several more times. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.....updated 11/16/17 the vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense. The ABS pump was replaced. Updated 12/18/2017

Just purchased this car used. 91, K miles. Brakes failed on me. I turned around in a parking lot making a sharp left turn and pulled back out onto the road. I was only about 20 yards from a stop sign. When I approached the stop sign, my breaks went to the floor and we went straight through the intersection, unable to stop. I pumped them like crazy and we slowed to a stop about 4 car lengths from the stop sign.

Anti-lock brake issue in five months I have had to replace two ABS modules/units. I first noticed my brakes getting spongy in late 2016, that's when the first ABS was replaced. Although this fixed the issue for a couple weeks, I then started to notice that my brakes were locking, when not applying the brakes. I returned to the repair shop which lead to new components on my brakes(pads front and rear, calipers rotors.etc.) because of the wear. All were replaced. Then the situation happened again when my teenage son was driving. Under acceleration, the brakes started applying pressure, which the engine had to compensate for. After taking it in to be repaired again, that is when the second ABS unit was replaced. This was after three days of trouble-shooting. I feel this is a safety issues, and I have spent an exhaustive amount of money on this one issue. I can only assume also, that because of braking, while I was accelerating, there will be more issues down the road. Please advise. Thank you.

While driving on April 29, 2016 the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor when attempting to brake on a city street. Car would still stop, but not very safely. Took car to mechanic. Mechanic bled and adjusted brakes, charging $35. On 4/7/17 the same thing happened. Will take back to mechanic along with article from 12/27/16.

Brakes continue to be an issue to the point I am not able to drive the car in bad weather or on rough road. I have borrowed a car to drive during snow etc. Brakes go to the floor and do not work definitely once ABS system is activated. Brakes on a daily basis continually go to the floor and do not grab once applied. Brakes are working day to day driving on dry smooth roads, but typically they go to the floor and you can finally stop with ample space allowed. When brake is applied, you feel an initial grab, then let go, propelled forward, and then the final grab once petal is at the floor. This is unpredictable and uncomfortable to be using brakes in bumper to bumper traffic let alone day to day driving stopping behind another car. Must always leave lots of stopping distance in front of the car for enough space to stop. Brakes at times have to be pumped to get any pressure. All inspections are up to date, and brake parts are new (pads, rotors, master cylinder) and repeatedly checked over last few years. It has come to the point I cannot drive the car in the winter. I cannot afford a car payment. Mine car is paid for. And my car is kept impeccable and maintained constantly. I want my car fixed. I love my car. This has been ongoing for some time now and every garage assures me my brakes are soft but nothing wrong that they can find after hours and hours at different repair shops. What is being done to remedy this? I do not have scanning abilities for repair receipts to be uploaded. I do not have all the receipts for every time I had a brake inspection worried about my brakes. I do have most recent receipts for safety check 5/3/16, master cylinder replaced 8/8/16 (probably not needed), brake check 12/14/16, and brake check 1/17/17. Receipts are from different garages. This car is for sure not safe to drive in snow.

The anti lock brakes came on when I was sliding in snow. Then my brakes went soft. I had to stop and put my car in park and pump the brake peddle to get them to come back up. Very scary this is the second time it has happened!

Extended braking distance this is now the second time this has happened to my car, the first time was last winter. It was a little slippery on the roads so I was not at all going fast, coming to a stop sign in my neighborhood braking, the antilock brakes kicked in, made a little noise, I stopped and then went on my way. The next time I came to stop after that I could barely stop and had to press my foot to the floor to do so. It was like it wanted to stop at the normal time but then released a little to have my foot go all the way down to then stop. I took it to the local neighborhood auto place, and they didn't know what it could be but they bleed the brakes and did something else that actually fixed it. Fast forward to this year December, same thing, turning into a store parking lot, so again going slow, slippery out, anti lock brakes kick in. I didn't think anything of it because the car had been fixed last year. However, when I went to park I almost crashed right into the front of the store because I was not prepared to not stop on time. I was able to stop finally, scared to death. Took it back to the same place they still can't figure it out and tried what they did last time but it didn't work. Around this same time I came across the article about the investigative recall about this very issue, forwarded it to the Lincoln Mercury dealership I got my car from and was told yes they know what it is and have had to repair several already this winter but since it is not an actual recall I would have to pay to get it fixed. It involves the hci (hydrolic control unit) and eci (electrical control unit). So now I'm stuck, still scared until this recall happens or until I can come up with the $900+ they say it will cost.
