This car has been a lemon almost since the day purchased used off a lot in Marin, Ca. The issue with it burning oil is that it will end up burning out the catalytic converter and we won't be able to pass smog the next time we have to register the vehicle. Not only is it annoying to have to monitor the oil constantly but when we have to replace the catalytic converter, it will be a major expense. At the same time, whatever is causing the oil to leak into the ignition components of the vehicle also needs to be addressed; more expense. Mini truly needs to be held accountable for engineering such a piece of crap. By comparison, our other vehicle is a Toyota Tacoma and it has over twice the mileage and so long as I do routine maintenance, it runs like a charm. This Copper, while fun to drive, constantly has 'fix this' and 'fix that' warning lights going off on the dash, most of which are false alarms or minor issues but this latest 'check engine' warning is truly serious. By the way, just to avoid having to run to the mechanic shop every ten minutes, we bought a code reader just for this vehicle.
