The contact owns a 1999 Plymouth Breeze. While driving 5 mph in a parking garage, the vehicle began to smoke. The contact then noticed flames rising from the hood. The vehicle was driven for 26 miles before the smoke occurred. The fire department was called and stated that the fire was due to electrical failure. The fire caused the windshield to crack and damaged the front end of the vehicle. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was included in NHTSA recall number 06V00100 (steering), however, they refused to perform the repair. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 151,000.
