I purchased the 2005 Pontiac GTO used in 2007. It had 13,000 miles. I rotated the tires myself at 17,500 miles. I noticed slight rub on strut tower and unusual wear - minor accelerated wear on inner edges, feathering of tread. At approximately 21,000 miles, I had an alignment done. At 23,000, I noticed extensive wear on the inner edge (cord showing on all 4 tires). I suspect the original owner had camber set to positive value to prevent rub/wear. When I had the alignment done, the rubbing resumed. Of course, dealership denied the rubbing.

The car is a 2005 Pontiac GTO. It has 245/45-17 tires that came on the car. The car has 22,000 miles on the odometer. The tires show clear signs of rubbing on the front struts. I have pictures of the passenger's front tire that shows cup marks and the tire cut through to the steel belts. The strut shows marks where the tire has come in contact with it.

When I went and had the last two sets of tires on my GTO replaced I notice tire wear on the inside front tires. After doing some research I found out that this is a common problem. When I went to the dealership they said it was under inflate tires and made up another excuse or two. I realized I was going to get nowhere with the service manager who swore there was no recall or safety issues with the tire rub. I then went home and removed the tires that had only been on my car for 4 days a realized they too were rubbing on the strut.

Strong vibration developed from the front of the vehicle. Inspection of the front end revealed the inside edge of my right front tire was cut past the steel belts due to it rubbing on the strut. I had to replace all the tires on the car.

The contact owns a 2005 Pontiac GTO. While driving 20 mph, the contact heard a clicking noise coming from the front passenger side tire. He noticed that the tread had separated. The dealer stated that the failure was caused by the struts wearing into the tires, which was due to a design flaw with the vehicle. There is a defect investigation open (NHTSA action # PE07010) for the mcpherson strut. The dealer stated that they would contact a General Motors representative and advised the contact to not drive the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 17,760.

Driver front tire rubbing on strut inside 3 inches warn down past the wear indicators while 3/16 tread still left on rest of tire. Tire went flat while traveling down residential roads, damage to the rim resulted. Driver's side camber was adjusted to allow tire not to contact strut, throwing alignment out, tire replaced. Passenger side noticed having the same problem only 2 inches warn away on inside of tire months later. Problem noticed after tire went flat on state highway, causing rim to be scuffed. Tire replaced, no suspension work done to fix issue.

My 2005 GTO has strut rub with 20,000 miles on it. After many complaints to my dealership I can see that they are not concerned for mine or my wife's lives. They keep putting our service date back week after week. Both of the front tires are worn down to the metal belts on the inside wall. We are still trying to get assistance for this issue from anyone who will help before we are killed or someone else is.

In my 2005 Pontiac GTO there is a problem with the front tires rubbing the strut assembly. The marks on the struts are very visible and they have worn down to the bare metal. I noticed the problem when rotating my tires. An alignment has been done in order to increase the camber, however, the initial specs were well within manufacturer's specifications. The dealership did not perform the alignment. The Pontiac dealership had no real solution to the problem nor were they very willing to finding one. I am not sure that the alignment has fixed the issue.

2005 GTO strut rub. Recently I had the tires rotated and noticed that the inside of the front tires has been worn down significantly compared to the rear tires. I am worried that without a fix every set of tires will do the same.

2005 Pontiac GTO purchased in 6/2005 had tires rotated every 6,000 miles. After 19,000 miles in 2/200 2 tires had to be replaced due to struts scraping inside wall of tires. After 22,000 miles in 5/2007 other 2 tires had to be replaced because of same problem. Pontiac dealer charged me $50 for front alignment to move struts away from tires. Tire cost of $120 B.F. goodrich tires, size 24545zr17+$21 installment +tax=$152 each.

Tire/strut rub - took 2005 GTO with 24000 miles to the local dealer to fix a leak on the front seal of the transmission, and was informed when I went to pick up the car that the left front driver's tire was getting bald on the inner side, and the right front passenger tire was down to the belt and could blowout at any time. Drove it straight home and looked at the tires and couldn't believe what I saw. Upon an internet search found numerous other GTO owners with the same tire/strut rub, especially with the right front passenger tire. GM needed to acknowledge T and fix this problem now! this was a very dangerous and serious problem and GM was lucky that this was caught before anyone was killed. This needed to be taken care of now!!

Failure of upper strut bushing on 2005 Pontiac GTO caused front tires to rub against the struts, leading to irregular wear and eventual failure of front tires. Pontiac refused to repair strut bushing and charged customer for front end alignment with negative camber to compensate for strut rub.

2005 Pontiac GTO has strut rubbing, the upper strut bushing is worn. The upper strut bearing also failed. Thus allowing the front tires to contact the front struts on the bottom of the spring perch. Dealer has done an alignment. They said strut bushing passed test. They will not remove strut to inspect bushing. I have ordered them, and will replace them myself. Car only has 5354 miles on it at this time. NHTSA investigation number is PE07010.

The 2005 Pontiac GTO with 18,000 miles was taken to tire service station for inspection and repairs of potential nail penetration to front passenger tire on April 14, 2007. Slow leak in tire after winter storage in garage caused the tire to be flat. Upon removal from car the defective tire determined the entire inner rim was worn out, exposing wires. Stated I was lucky the tire did not blow, out and rip my fender off, and causing an accident. I was informed that the driver's side tire was damaged as well, not safe to drive on, but not as bad as the passenger front tire. Something was severely wrong with car to cause that much damage. Paid for a replacement tire to drive to dealership. Researched information on internet through forums in regard to strut rub issue. Dropped car off at moormans Pontiac in dayton, Ohio on 05-07-07, and shared strut rub information with them, at which time they informed me that they had not been aware of this problem. They inspected the car and informed me that there was no evidence of tire rubbing on the struts, and that I would have to pay for alignment and new tires since I had evidently caused the problem myself due to my driving habits. Quoted cost of repairs would be $881 plus tax. Actual information entered in service ticket read customer stated tires were rubbing front struts and wearing out the tires.
