Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

problem #150

  • 67,000 miles

The passenger air bag sensor has been intermittent for the last year and on a recent trip failed to function during actual driving, disabling the air bag, turned on the "service airbag" display and light and would not clear. This occurred several times and then became permanent. The seat was occupied and it was a intermittent failure that became permanent. Since the fairlure occurred while away from home and on the weekend, took the vehicle to a shop who read the code (B0081) tried to further diagnose the failure and then indicated the most probable cause was the ppu unit (whatever that is) there were none available locally so drove the car home (columbus oh to dallas, tx) and parked it being careful with my driving as my wife was in the passenger seat. Doing internet searches indicated that this is a common problem with the car and GM has refused to acknowledge it because the car is no longer in production even though the problem existed during the actual production cycle. Why does G"M not recall the car with an obvious safety defect that can affect lives?"

The passenger presence module failed with less than 45000 miles on the vehicle. Passenger side air bag function is disabled. This is a high failure rate item on this vehicle and its sister vehicle the Pontiac solstice. The vehicle is stored indoors and well maintained without abuse. The part is available for inspection upon request

Airbag warning indicator stays lit. On the dic and cluster. Noticed this about 2 weeks ago. This is a major safety hazard that needs to be addressed before someone gets killed. Assuming no one has yet. Airbags will not operate when warning lights are on.

My vehilce has 39,00 miles on it. The service airbag light stays on. I contacted GM and they said no recalls at this time and to check back periodically. Therefore if we all have this problem then definitely there is a need for GM to check all of this out. And most of these vehicles has very low miles on them.

The airbag light lit up, the dealer checked it out and said it was the passenger seat occupancy sensor. Said it was the same one that was recalled on Cadillac cts but was T recalled on the Saturn ! I also check with the Cadillac dealership that the car came from and they said the same thing! I looked online and found this to be a common complaint, sent an E-mail to GM and received no response! thanks for any help. Gary witt 859-749-5290

After a GM ignition recall on Saturn Sky--we received notice and took our car to the GM shop to do the work. However now the "airbag warning light" stays on---we did much research and replaced the passenger side seat cushion and sensor-----this did not result in the airbag warning light going off--we took it to the GM dealer to do a diagnostic to see why the seat/sensor replacement did not fix the problem and they state the seat is properly installed and it is not causing the airbag warning light issue---but they did not tell us what was the diagnosed problem. Many Saturn Sky owners have written to you and are very concerned about the safety of their families, the fact they cannot pass state required safety inspections; which renders their GM product completely useless. GM has never responded to these issues for Saturn Sky owners or for Pontiac solstice owners and the NHTSA likewise have not responded to this dangerous issue, despite numerous complaints. Many other air bag issues have been addressed by your board for a variety of vehicles---why not this one" I will be approaching my state and federal representatives with this concern as well; it is a public safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately. My husband has also written to the NHTSA has never responded. Will you respond now"

The airbag warning light has just come on, on my 2007 Saturn Sky. After getting the error code scanned air bag code B0081. I was informed that there is a problem with the passenger presence system. After speaking to the GM service manager and mechanic who diagnosed the problem with my vehicle and doing some research, I quickly learned this is a known problem and issue for the 2007 Saturn Sky as with the Cadillac cts and Kia. Both vehicles have been recalled for the same issue. Based on the number of complaints for the passenger airbag safety system. Why has no recall been issued to solve this malfunctioning system?

Passenger side airbag warning light is coming on intermittently. Did some research, appears this is a "common problem" with all the Sky/solstice cars due to a defective seat sensor. My car is a low mileage, garage kept car with only 42K miles on it. This should not happen. Also, if other makes and models have had this airbag sensor recalled, why has GM not recalled the Sky/solstice; are the passengers safety not as important in our cars?
