Volvo has known about the air conditioner defect in 850's for years. Conveniently they don't tell you about it until it fails, at which time you are out of warranty. The evaporator leaks. It needs to be replaced and it's a major repair job, involving tearing out the entire dashboard to replace the part. Volvo dealer, Smart Motors in Madison, WI quoted me $1,300 and never bothered to inform me there have been service bulletins about this and that for years they had repaired this defect for those lucky enough to find it while under warranty. I am not under warranty any more. My dealer refuses to cut me a break of any kind. I am considering filing a claim against them in court. This is shoddy customer relations and deceptive practices. What really riles me is that so many other people have had this problem and that Volvo has done nothing to fix the problem.
