A fellow Volvo driver pointed out the corrosion and pitting of the mag wheels when the car was only 8 months old. According to the dealership whom I have pointed this matter out to, these mag wheels are not cheap and are worth about $700 (Canadian dollars) each to buy. While at the dealership, the service manager and I checked out a number of Volvos in the service lot and found that the problem only existed on the new S series. He has subsequently taken it up with Volvo Canada, but I have had no information back. It appears that with the new series they used cheaper materials for their mag wheels. It really is disgraceful that a relatively expensive car like this that is supposed to be designed for Swedish winters, is including expensive mag wheels that pit and corrode. Definitely a defect in manufacture.
