Regular oil changes on this car and have always experienced excessive oil consumption. One day my Volvo started and immediately began to backfire badly. Took to an independent Volvo mechanic and he advised that the engine had low compression and that there was a problem down in the valves and that it was not worth putting money into the car. It looks like a new engine is needed out of no where! Seems to be a typical issue after investigating. Very disappointing. Volvo North America wants me to take it to a dealer and pay fees to have engine torn apart only to “Determine” if a good will case can be opened. After seeing that several were denied such assistance, rather than sink money into this lemon , I’ll just consider it a loss. Stuck with having to get another car. AVOID VOLVO

Car came to complete halt while driven on a city street, with no warning, and would not start, even if jumped. Dealer has now informed us that the serpentine belt broke and got sucked into the timing belt, which because this is an interface engine where both the valves and cylinders move synchronized by the timing belt, caused the valves and cylinders to crash.

Now why would you design this engine in such a way that something can get sucked into the timing belt, given that any disruption to it will cause the engine to crash. This is a complete and total design defect of the timing belt cover!
