This 2 year old vehicle with 21, 000 miles sat for 7 days and the battery was completely dead. No lights had been left on. I charged the battery all day and brought it up to 90 percent. Vehicle started and I took it to the local Volvo dealer. They tested the battery and it did not indicate any kind of battery failure so it could not be replaced under warranty. They stated that all test for any electrical drain while the ignition was off were negative.

I was sent home to see if it would happen again. Subsequent checks with Internet Volvo forum sites indicate that this has been a problem with Volvo XC-90's in the past. Since no lights of any kind were left on, and the battery tested good and held a recharge, it is quite obvious that there is some type of "parasitic" drain on the battery when the ignition is off. It appears that Volvo doesn't have the ability to find it, leaving me with no confidence that this vehicle will start after sitting for a few days.
