— After recalling 26,000 Audi cars for gas odors entering the engine compartment due to gas leaks, Volkswagen is recalling another 45,000 cars for the same problems. VW says the recalled cars are the 2014-2015 VW Jetta, 2014-2015 Passat, 2015 Golf and GTI and the 2014-2015 Beetle and Beetle Convertible.
VW says a supplier applied a faulty solder to the sealing cap at the fuel rail. The bad solder joint can start leaking and allow gas to enter the engine compartment. VW thought the problem had been taken care of until the supplier said more soldering problems occurred than originally believed.
Owners will notice a smell of fuel once a leak occurs and a warning light will illuminate as the pressure drops in the fuel rail.
The recalled cars have the following manufacturing dates:
- 2014-2015 Jetta - Manufactured March 28, 2014, to November 24, 2014.
- 2014-2015 Passat - Manufactured April 7, 2014, to November 18, 2014.
- 2015 Golf and GTI - Manufactured July 1, 2014, to November 20, 2014.
- 2014-2015 Beetle and Beetle Convertible - Manufactured March 31, 2014, to November 27, 2014.
The recall will start in February 2015. Owners should watch for mailed notification to get their cars to a VW dealer to have the fuel rails replaced.
