    According to CarComplaints.com, 2013 is the model year of the Hyundai Elantra with the most overall complaints. The most reported problem for that make/model year is "brakes make grinding noise."

    "We're not used to seeing any major problems with Hyundai, which makes the early signs of trouble with the 2013 Elantra very surprising in a bad way," CarComplaints.com noted. "It seems there was a bad batch of OEM pads & rotors, but so far Hyundai is not doing a recall. Instead Hyundai issued a TSB, & dealers have been replacing pads & rotors on a per-complaint basis."

  • Malware Links on U.S. Car-Defect Website Risked Infecting Users

    The infected files were discovered by CarComplaints.com, an independent website that tracks safety defects. The company was downloading NHTSA data to repost to its own site when it found 766 instances of a malicious link directing people to an external server associated with browser malware, said Mike Wickenden, editor of CarComplaints.com.

Another site, CarComplaints.com, has registered over 300 complaints relating to the 2010 to 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, alone, according to The New York Times.

    The Chrysler module is the most widespread issue reported by car owners this year, the owner of CarComplaints.com, Mike Wickenden, wrote in an email. There are about 300 complaints about 2011-12 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango sport utility vehicles on his website, and about half involve the module, he said.

  • Chrysler TIPM Defect Petition to the NHTSA

    CAS has received at least 70 complaints related to the Chrysler TIPM1, and there have been hundreds if not thousands of TIPM-related complaints filed with NHTSA. Complaints on Chrysler TIPMs are also flooding into other vehicle complaint websites. CarComplaints.com notes that TIPM complaints on 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokees are the number one most frequent complaint on their website, with 2011 Dodge Durango TIPM complaints coming in a close second.

    Michael Wickenden, who operates the site CarComplaints.com, which tracks owners’ gripes about their cars, called the Ram dashboards “definitely one of the top problems right now, mainly in model years from 1999 to 2003, all across the Dodge Ram model line from the 1500 all the way up to the 3500.”

    Mr. Wickenden said he had received almost 1,700 complaints for the 1998-2007 model years, with the heaviest concentration in 2003 models. He said some people reported cracks, while others said chunks of their dashboards had fallen off.

    Mr. Wickenden of CarComplaints.com said the agency’s failure to require a recall was a sore point with owners. “A lot of people are frustrated because they feel it is a safety issue because of the jagged edges,” he said.

"Hands down, of all of the cars, it has the worse record for complaints about severe lower back pain, back spasm, and numbness in the legs due to uncomfortable driver seats."

    "Almost half of the transmission failures occur under 90,000 miles,” he wrote in an e-mail. “One in five break down before the odometer hits 70,000 miles. Many formerly brand-faithful owners write they won’t be buying a Honda again anytime soon."
