Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

The contact owns a 2003 BMW Z4. The contact stated while driving 45 mph she could feel the steering wheel jerking and it became hard to control. She also stated it felt like the steering wheel exhibit excessive resistance. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,800 the current mileage is 12,200 updated 07/13/12 BMW agreed to replace the steering column free of charge. Updated 07/18/12

When vehicle is in the sun and heats up the steering becomes sticky, making it difficult to maintain correct alignment on roadway. Over steering occurs and gives impression of weaving while crossing into oncoming traffic. Near miss of other vehicle occurred. This sticking has occurred on several occasions each summer in warm to hot weather.
