Everyone said i was crazy and no way u-joints could be bad already. once they were replaced the noise was gone. i really love this truck but just wish GM would build a true quality product.

problem #1

Feb 262009

Colorado 3.4L 5 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

I brought my truck into a Chevy dealer to find out what the noise was. I kind of knew it was the u-joints but wanted confirmation. After riding around with the mechanic, he told me it was my mirrors "whistling". I told him it wasn't my mirrors "whistling" and told him I thought it was my u-joints. He said he never heard u-joints make that sound before. I asked him if they have been replacing u-joints on Colorados. He didn't answer me. That to me, means yes. Got back to the dealership. Put it up on the lift and it was the u-joints. Said they could fix it for between $300-$376, would take about 3-4 hours. I asked them why u-joints would go with only 73,000 miles on it, (highway miles), and they replied, "Probably crap from the road".

After going online, I could see alot of people were having the same problem, and some of the people asked their dealers about the u-joints in their trucks (because they had the same problem) and from what their dealers said, they weren't aware of any problems with the u-joints/driveshafts. But like I said, online there is alot of complaints about this problem. I realize that until there is a recall, they will probably deny or not answer you (as in my case) until they HAVE to fix it.

How many complaints against a specific problem on a vehicle turns it into a recall? Just curious.
