The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle started smoking on the inside. The failure was due to the blower motor connector melting and malfunctioning. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer nor called the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 54,000.

The cooling/heating blower fan speed resistor and wiring harness on the 2004-2009 Chevy Colorado has a shorting problem which causes the truck to have a smoke smell and may lead to a fire if not checked on. I found mine after smelling smoke for a few months and started checking where it was coming from. I found the fan speed resistor connector and associated wiring harness burnt and slightly melted. I would have taken to the dealer but it was out of warranty and did not want to pay there high labor costs. This is the second time changing this out in the last year and I found that there is a common grounding point on the passenger side fender wall which over time becomes corroded and makes a bad ground most likely causing the shorting problem. If this is not worthy of a recall then I would like to at least have a warning notice sent to owners so they would know what to look for if this happens to them.

I have owned my 2005 Chevrolet Colorado 4 door 4X4 since Nov. 2004 I have had tires that puckered, 3 radios installed, blower motor switch replaced 1 time and is now out again, a leak in the fire wall that has been in 2 times to be fixed and still leaks in hard rains, a defective brake light switch. And the worst gas mileage of any vehicle I have owned in the past 30 years. My 71 Monte Carlo with a 400 big block and 3:73 rear end gears got better gas mileage. Chevrolet said to wait till it had about 10,000 miles well it has 52,000 and still can't get past 16.5 mpg. And only 11 if towing anything. The radio has been fixed and the brake switch replaced I still have leaking fire wall and very poor gas mileage. I drive a nice straight shot 71 miles one way with only 2 stop signs between start and finish of my drive each day for a total of 140 miles of pure open interstate driving in a rural area! shame on you Chevrolet!
