Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

Colorado 4WD 4-cyl

I was slowing down at an intersection to make a right hand turn. As I made the turn, my engine died. I lost power steering, and my vehicle was extremely difficult to control. I nearly hit another car. My engine restarted immediately after I placed the truck in park. The next day, my truck died again while slowing to enter an intersection. I immediately took it to a mechanic, who replaced the throttle body. On the way home, it died while make a right hand turn. This appears to be a common failing with the Chevrolet Colorado, and is very dangerous as it causes a loss of power steering.

Pulling into parking spot and truck came to dead halt, looked down and the 4 wheel low had engaged. Vehicle wouldn't move and made awful grinding noises finally got it back into 2 wheel drive.(note the 4 wheel had stopped working completely at the end of February during a cold snap and lots of snow) went to drive home and truck again engaged into 4 low at 70 mph on highway immediately slowing me down to 20 and almost throwing me out of control. Have no idea if it made grinding noises then as I thought I was going to crash. There was an officer behind me that almost hit me but he followed me home to make sure the truck got there. There have been numerous other little issues with the truck like not starting, rear brakes blowing apart, U joints went out at 25,000 miles, engine not sealed properly per mechanic as got water in it last year.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. While attempting to make a left turn at 10 mph, the steering wheel and tires suddenly locked, which caused the vehicle to come to a stop. The contact noticed that the low range indicator light illuminated on the instrument panel. She then pushed the button to place the vehicle into regular range, which allowed the vehicle to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the transfer case encoder motor was not functioning properly. The vehicle was serviced, but the failure still persists. There was no crash due to the failure. The current mileage was 35,500 and failure mileage was 13,000.

2007 Chevrolet Colorado with multiple safety problems. Consumer stated that after the vehicle was purchased it was taken back for these repairs. Front driver side door latch, hood latch, brake cable repositioned, and check engine light. The consumer stated 3 days after purchasing the vehicle, there was a problem with the driver's side front door hinge. The nuts were not tightened to the main body frame, there was a rattling noise coming from the engine, but the problem was never diagnosed, the front passenger side headlight cover had to be replaced, which the dealer stated the seal was missing, the rotors were warped and the brake pads were glazed and last, the transmission would shift harder than normal.
