CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Equinox is plagued by a heating problem, as in the heater only blows cold air.

The reported cause of this problem is a small door, known as the air temperature blend door, which allows air to flow past the heater core. This door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. The problem has a typical repair cost of over $800.

The 2006 Equinox also has a number of reported problems ranging from the key getting stuck in the ignition, to failing speed sensors, and trouble starting the engine. All in all, this car sounds like one worth avoiding.

It started off just "sticking" after several turns it would finally turn over. Yesterday, not so lucky. I tried and tried and finally had to have it towed to the dealership that was 5 miles down the road!! Can only imagine how much this will cost me!

This car has had 3 ignitions and you still have to giggle it to get it to turn at times. This should be a recall item. The dealer called to they were finishing up and to come and get the car. When I arrived they said that vehicle is not ready yet because the ignition they replaced it with was faulty too they bother to give me the common courtesy of a phone call to let me know. I spent $15 to take a taxi to go about 5 miles and sure as hell wasn't going to pay another $30 to wait at home and come back again. Does anybody have any idea how to make recalls happen?

My "dream car" has been a royal pain. I hav eonly had this vehicle since Christmas of 2006 and I am about to swear off CHEVYROLETS forever!!!!!!!

starting the car is a nightmare. the ignition sticks. i drove my son's car to work and it took almost an hour and a half to start the car. the key (spare also) would not start the car. in 100 degree weather it is not safe. and it could put someone in danger if they are trying to start the car. this has also injured my index finger on my right hand. think this should be brought to the consumers attn. and to the auto makers. we always buy chevy trucks or cars but this is not a good sign.

thanks

I actually have several problems. The first is the key in the ignition part. I have to put my key in turn it over a few times if that doesn't work i take it out turn the key around & do it again. So if that doesn't work i have to again turn the key around re-insert then pump my brakes 3 times take my foot off then turn the key. and finally if that doesn't work then i have to act like my car has no power steering and turn my steering wheel all the way to one side then the other, switch if that doesn't work and do it again. it is a pain in the rear. another issue is 2 weeks after i got my vehicle the child safety piece broke that keeps the seat belt away from the child's neck. then my visor broke on the drivers side. Then i noticed that my passenger seat looked like somebody had slammed it on the ground before installing it and finally on the drivers side seat on the back the fabric came apart & now you can see the whole inside of my seat. so far i think this is all but i'm sure there is more. i feel as though i have been sold a Lemon!! i am very angry and hope that i will have everything replaced.

The key would not turn in the ignition at all, jiggled alot and still nothing. Rocked the car back and forth and it finally worked enough to get to the next destination so it would happen again.. The dealer repaired this problem by removing the cylinder and grinding some metal away, but then it seemed really loose and not right at all. It seemed so loose that i could put a butter knife in it to turn it on.. I had to complain a lot and finally the changed the cylinder... I got the car back four days later....
