Speedometer just went haywire today so we are using our Garmin for speed. After seeing others who have checked to see cost of fix I guess we will be using the Garmin for quite awhile.

Impala Sedan 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

My speedometer went out in August of 2008. It would say I was going 100 when I should have been only going 30. Not sure how fast I was going but It wasn't 100. I was told to turn the ignition switch on and off to reset this. This was only a temporary fix. On Dec. 27th 2009 I was In LABOR on the highway going to the hospital to deliver my child and the car said it was over heating. I pulled over and reset the car with the ignition switch and that temporary fixed the problem. I decided then that was the last time I am buying a Chevy. It could have been a lot worse than what it was, but it was bad enough. Had to have IP cluster replaced which of course you can only have done a the dealership.

I am also having problems with my gauges not working! Go to recalls.gov and report it. I did and if they get enough complaints maybe they will finally issue a recall.

All my gauges go haywire at random times (speed shows over 120mph, RPM are as high as needle will go, and temp is through the roof). This happens everyday. It may work fine for 15 min and then go crazy or it might work fine for a few hours and the it just stops.

I AM ALSO HAVING THE PROBLEM OF MY SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING ANY MORE IN MY WIFE 04' IMPALA. IT START OFF WORKING, THEN NOT WORKING, UNTIL IT STOPPED COMPLETLEY. KNOW I AM HEARING IT FROM MY WIFE ABOUT HER ODOMETER NOT WORKING.BUT I THINK IT IS A DEFECT THAT THE DEALER SHOULD DEFINITLY BE RESPONCIABLE TO REPAIR OR REPLACE. BUT I MIGHT HAVE TO GO AND TAKE ON THE JOB OF REPAIRING MY OWN.

Impala LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles

Just past 35,000 miles my speedometer and other gauges quit working. Cost to fix quite high $500+ and pretty certain it is a manufacturing problem and should be recalled but dealership said no. I have waited trying to hope it would be a recall. I have had several times when a person driving the same 2004 Impala asked me if I was having speedometer problems because they were too. I did not tell the cop when I got a speeding ticket that my speedometer did not work because I was hoping to get out of the ticket and figured that would not help. Needless to say this is rediculous. Our other vehicle a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer has the same problem also.

Same problem as the others. Speed all over the place. They should recall it.

Can't afford to fix right now. My daughter needs to take a driving test. Will they even let her use that Car? Might go with a GPS and can the $500 repair. but is that legal?

We were coming home from a trip to another state and our speedometer quit working!!! What a royal pain! Fortunately, we had our GPS to help with how fast we were going. This problem is quite frustrating. I keep looking for recall information, but nothing is found. The only thing I find is complaints...no solutions! Seems like this is a serious safety issue and it should be addressed by General Motors! Does someone have to be killed or seriously hurt before they will actually take this issue seriously?

Impala LT 3.2L

Called Chevy, they stated that though there is a recall for bad circuit boards in instrument clusters, my VIN was not included. Any ideas to get them to pony up? ( The Gas and Tach are dead now as well)

Nov 162009

Impala 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

My speedometer keeps going haywire! This started about mid November and I'm still contending with it. The speedometer will work fine for several days, then all of a sudden it will read 80, 90, 120 and even drop below, although I'm driving at regular speeds along with the other traffic. It will drop back a few mph every time I turn the car on and off and eventually go back to normal. Then, the problem starts all over again.

Since I've seen so many complaints, has there been a recall?

I like Honda's,don't know why my wife wanted a Chevy Impala.Took the car to have the motor replaced, got it back with a broken spedometer. Was not repair shop's fault .They checked into problem to see if they caused the problem, only to find out it was the instrument cluster itself.I I just can't win with this car.

When cold weather sets in my speedometer needle acquires an erection that lasts for months. Viagra has nothing on this little guy, believe me. I have tried turning the key on and off, but that doesn't always work. My next step is to take the dash apart to get at the needle and use some WD40 on it as a last attempt before getting sticker shock for the repair, which I will definitely argue the point that it is a manufacture's defect.

When traveling outside of city limits I can use GPS to set my cruise control and go without to much trouble. Un fortunately I travel daily in city and looking at my GPS to check my speed is not safe nor easy to always find the speed at a glance. My husband is trying to find a solution for a problem that is not our fault without costing an arm or a leg. This problem seems to be wide spread. Help

Impala LX 3.2L

while driving on the mass. turnpike at night, during a snow storm, my speedometer needle started dropping even though i was maintaining the same speed and distance from the car ahead. over the course of 150 miles the needle dropped below zero until i got home. i had to judge my speed with the tachometer. the next morning the speedo worked fine. this is the second time in 6 months this has happened on the same road during a long trip. the needle dropped below zero but the mileage kept going up on the odometer.
