Engine makes a clicking noise when idling. Nice shiny car sounds terrible. Not good in front of a crowd!!

Impala LT 3.5L V6
I have experienced the noise off and on since buying the car in 2007 (with 22,000 miles on it). It never does it when I have it in the dealership and they say they "cannot duplicate the problem". I was wondering if anyone has gotten their noise fixed and what it was so I can tell the dealership specific details.
