Purchased my 06 Silverado right off the showroom floor. First problem was the headliner. GM knew it was cut too short but sold the trucks without a fix in place for it. I actually got that in writing from the service manager at the dealership I purchased the truck from. I got that handled with a fax to the CEO of GM at that time.

Check Engine Light came on for the first time in 2007 - it was the emissions system - had to have that replaced thankfully under warranty from the dealership.

Then the rotors had to be replaced.

Then it was the check engine light - over and over again. Replaced the solenoid in the gas tank, replaced the gas cap twice. Fixed the problem for a short time and then it was back again.

The truck started making a god-awful squeaking noise. Thought it was the belts or the pulleys. Left it was a veteran, 30 year Chevrolet mechanic. He was totally baffled. I did not have time to leave it with him to tear into the engine at that time. Eventually the squeal went away.

Then the engine was idling rough at stop lights - so thought it may need a tune up so I had that done too. That also did not solve the CEL issue.

Finally got tired of the light being on and had my mechanic tear the engine down to find the problem. Turns out that one of the cam lobes had worn down in a way that none of the mechanics I deal with have ever seen. The lifter on that lobe looks like someone has been grinding it on concrete. My mechanics told me that this is absolutely a defective cam. They saved all the parts for me. I never had such attention from mechanics before - when I went in to pick up my truck they all came out to talk to me. They wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what I was looking at and where the damage was. I asked if there was any way that this damage could have occurred by the way the truck was being driven and the answer was no. Only one lobe was deteriorated. Should not have happened.

I am planning on contacting GM to see what they plan on doing about it. I wonder does anyone else have a similar story or has had the same on-going issues with the 06 Silverado.

Will update after I have contacted GM about this.
