The truck is back at the dealer. Fourth time. The "engine cleaning" did not help. The replacement of the engine cover did not help either. "Band-Aid" fixing doesn't work. So now I hope GM will authorize the real solution to the problem. I understand it is a some sort of a partial rebuild. Once again, Scott from Sea Coast was nice enough to provide a normal size of a loaner car.

Just like everyone else has been complaining about excessive oil consumption by GM engines it is my turn to complain about this issue. I first noticed it in August of 2015. My check engine light went on. That's when I checked the oil level. It was low. Went to the dealer and was told that GM does not want to fix the problem right away but rather have customers go thru a lengthy and annoying process of "Band-Aid" stuff. First, I had to leave with a schedule list of when I add oil. Then, about a thousand miles later I'd have to come back. Then the engines gets "cleaned." Then I'd have to take the truck and again keep checking oil and put on paper the dates when I add oil. Then I have to come back again to replace a few things and then it supposedly should be OK.
Who pays for the oil I have to buy and add? Who pays for the loss of work days and time? Great job GM? By the way, great job Ally bank too! Paying people $350 for something they do not deserve. Im not one of those people. Wrong skin color.
The problem really presented itself as an engine miss. Took to local Chevy dealer and they couldn't notice miss. Kept driving and ended up with check engine light on and no AC (limp mode) on very hot day with 4 kids in vehicle. Took to local parts store to have check engine light diagnosed, miss on cylinder 7. Bought spark plugs and changed them. The one out of cylinder 7 was beyond fouled, it was melted with large pieces missing. Also black with oil hence me reporting this under the oil consumption issue.
When I contacted the dealer they were reluctant to investigate. Finally found some service bulletins online about the oil consumption issue and engine miss issues. They had me pay to change the oil to start an oil consumption test. Want me to drive it 2,500 miles then return. Not being very happy with this scenario since I likely wouldn't drive that much before warranty is up, I wrote a letter asking for a new engine. They now offer to replace pistons and rings if the new plug is oil fouled, which it was with less than 1,000 miles. I am not happy with just pistons and rings though because I am sure that oil touched the valves and ran out exhaust system. Who knows what damage is done and if same issue will return in another 60,000 miles. Can't pay to replace engine every 60,000 miles.
Going in next week to have them decide what they are going to do. If they were willing to make this right by replacing engine and exhaust system I may consider keeping and even buying a Chevy pickup I had planned as my next vehicle. If not, I will never buy another GM product.
My husband has had to add 2.5 quarts of oil to my rig about two weeks ago. Yesterday he had to add another quart. There is a lose of power. It feels like I'm driving through mud when I start to accelerate, particularly when going up a hill.

2011 Suburban. Oil consumption started 18-24 months ago. Twice #1 spark plug fouled. Went through all the fixes. Had rings replaced, 8000 miles ago. Burned through 5 qts in 6000 miles. 2700 more miles another 4 quarts.Brought back in today. I expect GM to replace engine.
