When the transmission would start to shift it would jump or shimmy. This was especially true when climbing a grade.

Suburban LT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,000 miles

2016 Suburban - LT had 96,000 miles on it. No heavy towing, just normal driving. Started having a hard shift in low gears. Then it started shaking between gear changes. After 500 mile trip, couldn't stand it any longer and searched to see if any recalls or information online. Nothing I could find, except for complaints that there were issues around this time. Contacted trusted mechanics, they sent me to transmission shop. They told me there is a known issue with a plate that warps inside the transmission sometime after 60k (which is the GM warranty limit) and that when they rebuild it, it is with a thicker plate.

$5,500 dollars later, I am about to go pick up the repaired truck.

I didn't engage with a dealer or Chevrolet directly. So I don't know if there is some super-secret recall where they just fix/repair it, like they did with my Air Conditioning Unit that busted after less than 2 years!

I like the truck, but I doubt I will buy a Chevy again. Maybe look at new Lightning F-150.

Suburban LT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 109,000 miles

We took our 2016 Black Suburban in for the brake recall. Days later when coming down a hill, we noticed the brakes were not right. We replaced the brakes - same problem. Then the car started driving differently and with tugging / shifting issues so we took it in. They said yes, the vacuum pump is bad, and as well, the transmission needs to be rebuilt and or replaced. We just had the dealer a few months ago do a transmission flush, then after the recall fix, our transmission over a week later is shot?!

Come on, Chevy - I don't trust your programming updates when shifting is now done by a computer. This has been a problem for a lot of Chevy owners and I am now waiting to see if they will pay for it / or half? Who knows. I will be getting a Ford Expedition if I have to pay 6k for a new transmission on a car that isn't even 5 years old. WTF. My 2010 Chevy transmission went out at 109k.

You don't give $80,000 for a vehicle that rides like an 18 wheeler with all flat tires! My baby's car seat jumps and giggles her so badly while riding in her car seat that she throws up from nausea. Most children fall asleep while riding. You can't even get a sip of a beverage to your lips without spilling it all over you. In addition, it sounds like it's not catching between first and second gear as you are speeding up. The tires are literally wearing to one side on all 4 of them. In the sun, even the paint has "lines" up and down as if while going through the factory paint booth, it skipped a line....totally different colors. My entire family of brothers, sisters, in-laws, mom, dad, grandpa, cousins, etc. all drive expensive GM products ie escalades, Denali's, Surb's, etc and have for 50+ years! They're all waiting to see what GM does about this. I have demanded a "buy back", was intending to get another one just like it thinking mine just happen to be a lemon. But after reading everything I'm reading on several web pages, I don't know what to buy because if I get another of any of these, sounds like GM is having massive production problems. Don't know my decision yet. I'm giving them another week, before I file Lemon law, contact the BBB, and call Attorney General. It's been in our local dealership 5 times and is now going tomorrow to another dealership that GM is sending it to. IF GM does not buy it back, I'm forced to do the above.

Suburban LS V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 17,000 miles

The transmission has trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. It happens all of the time. So when I'm at a roll to slow down but then I start to gradually increase speed, it "jerks" to start going. And no, I'm not flooring it. It doesn't do it when downshifting often but definitely on the increase.
