CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer is known for many things, but perhaps it is most famous for its faulty fuel gauge.

This gauge flip-flops more than a politician during election season. Some report that the gauge says "empty" after a fill-up, while others report the gauge says "full" when they're running on fumes. Either way, there's one thing everyone seems to agree on: the darn thing is just wrong.

Following hundreds of complaints and a few accidents allegedly caused by the malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue in May 2011. Unfortunately for frustrated owners, no recall has been announced.

Gas gauge is faulty. Does not read accurate fuel levels. When you fill the tank the check engine light turns on and then the fuel level will drop to empty and then back up to half tank.

2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer ss gas gauge sensor malfunction. Fuel level indicator does not function properly and will trigger the service engine light to come on and off on any given day. Vehicle gives low gas indication even after filling up gas tank. If you google this problem or search auto forums, it appears thousands of people have this same issue and no one is doing anything about this.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated consistently and the fuel sending unit failed. Whenever the contact filled the vehicle with gas, the fuel gauge would register an empty reading. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that there were no related recalls and the fuel sending needed to be replaced at the contact's expense. She called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000 and the current mileage was approximately 90,000.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer has several complaints on-line about the fuel gauge not operating accurately and the need for the fuel sending unit needing to be replaced on several vehicles that are relatively new. This is an incredible nuisance. I have owned several vehicles in my life and have never had to replace this part in any car. I now have a 2007 Trailblazer and had to spend almost $600 on this part. I am curious why there are so many complaints on line and why there isn't a recall on this?

2007 Chevy Trailblazer gas sensor has malfunctioned. Found out that it is not under warranty! I have found many complaints about this on the internet. There should be a recall on this part and it should be replaced or covered by my warranty!

Gas gauge would not work - did not give accurate account of how much gas was in vehicle even after filling up. Gas light was on and would ding as if empty. Took car into Chevrolet dealership & it was a sensor in the gas tank. Gas tank had to be "pulled" and sensor had to be replaced. Would have cost me $800, but luckily I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the vehicle. I have seen numerous reports of this same thing happening to others with a 2007 Trailblazer - is this not a recall?

I bought this 2007 Chevy Trailblazer and baby it like there was no tomorrow. Now everything is breaking. First it was the racking pinion steering. Some how the seal busted. Second, the fuel gauge began to register empty even though it was full and joint ball went bad making some vibration and squealing sound. I got the fuel gauge fixed and joint ball, now the struts that lift rear window doesn't work. I was so eager to get this Trailblazer but it is costing me more money than what it is worth.

The fuel gauge quickly drops to empty after less than 1/4 of the fuel has been used. The dealer states that the fuel sender unit will need to be replaced costing $575. With only 43K miles on the car, it seems a little premature for this type of repair.

After fueling our 2007 Trailblazer, the gas gauge very slowly started to intermittently go to empty and/or 'ding' and turn on the low fuel light. Now, the low fuel light stays on at all times. We have been told that it is the fuel gauge sensor and will cost $500-$1000 to fix and that many, many others have been having this same issue.

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer ls and the fuel gauge began to fluctuate between full and empty 0 ultimately staying on empty... this I found is a common problem with the Trailblazers and has been for awhile - many business associates have the same problem with different years of Trailblazer... what a rip-off, I feel that Chevrolet should have a recall to correct this - they are worse than Toyota.

Filled my tank and drove away the morning of the incident. While driving later that day my fuel gauge started going down while driving. It went to empty the low gas indicator light came on and it stayed that way for a few minutes before returning to full. This only happened 1X so far recently. I've also had problem with all the gauges going out while driving. Speedometer/fuel/ electrical/tach etc. Had to turn off the vehicle and restart to reset these functions in the past. 2-3X an had onstar run diagnostics. The electric stability control has also been coming on/off intermittently quite frequently at startup and at other times while driving. I've seen similar complaints on chat boards but few have take the steps to document them beyond the postings. There are many similar complaints on the web. Thank you
