CarComplaints.com Notes: There are a fair-number of power steering related complaints which is a continuation of problems from the previous model year. Considering the problem tends to happen beyond the standard warranty (73k+) it's best to avoid this vehicle or at least be prepared for the $1,300+ repair.

In 2016 when my check engine light went on I had my timing chain replaced. Fortunately I had purchased an extended warranty with the car because it was a $4000 repair. Two months later, the light was back on and I needed a new engine. Another $6000 repair, covered by warranty. The warranty company was a nightmare and I was without a car for about 6 weeks total. Two years later and my check engine light is on intermittently and has the same code as last time... I cannot afford to repair this car, I owe more than it's worth as it is.

Do not purchase the Chevrolet Traverse 2011. This automobile is very pleasing to the eye but is a lemon.

Traverse LT 3.6L

Bought it used. Figured it was a good buy since it was low mileage for the age of the car when I bought it. Seemed to be maintained well. Virtually days after I purchased it the engine light turned on and seemed to have loss of power. Had the codes read and found out it had p008 and p0017 codes. Did some research online and found tons of complaints about timing chain issues with the engines in these SUV's and that cost for repair for this problem averages around $2500 to $3000 when you are lucky and don't need to replace the engine due to the timing chain problem causing secondary damage to the rest of the engine (average cost for engine replacement being $8500).

I should have researched this SUV before purchasing, now I'm kicking myself for not doing it. GM won't do anything to correct this is with these engines and it seems that they know there is a defect with these engines. After paying for this repair I would have spent way more for this thing than what is worth.

I have a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse only 1 person drives the car. I have had to replaced the time and changer, motor mount and 3 catalytic converters. This car only has 80,345 miles. The car is only 7 years old. I get my oil change on time. Takes the car to Gerry Lane for oil change suppose to have a thorough diagnostic check. After that it wasn't a month later that all of these problems start happening. I think these should of shown up on you diagnostic machine. Car has put me down on the road over and over again.

We have a 2011 Chevy Traverse and got a P008 check engine light code. It ended up being a "stretched" timing chain. This is a known issue on 2009 and 2010 years to the extent that GM extended their warranty to cover it. Supposedly it was fixed with 2011 but evidently not. So I had to pay the full bill because GM hasn't actually fixed this issue.

My 2011 Traverse powers down and barely moves because of a problem related to the throttle body. This is a known problem with many Chevrolet vehicles. In fact there is a Special Coverage Limited Warranty for this problem. But Chevrolet will not recognize that my vehicle is having this problem. When I signed up for my.chevorolet.com and went to the Warranty section for my vehicle it lists "Special Coverage 14582" It does not give any information as to what it is or means. I researched this on the internet and have found it relates directly to this problem with my Traverse. "a condition where the throttle position sensor may cause the engine to run rough and cause the malfunction indicator lamp and/or an Engine Reduced Power message to illuminate. If this occurs, it could result in reduced engine power..... This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles". Here is a link to one similar service bulletin I found. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/UCM429727/CSC-10047220-3332.pdf

I have also had OnStar do an On-Demand diagnostic of my vehicle and they say, “there has been an issue detected in the throttle control system that integrates features such as cruise control, traction control, stability control, and pre-crash systems.”

I was trying to get to work today when this happened for the third time and my Traverse would only go 10 mph. I went directly to my Chevrolet service center. I found out that with all of the evidence they still will not recognize that the problem I am having is even related to this Special Coverage and on top of that they will not even be able to look at the vehicle or do any diagnostic until Monday. I really like my Chevrolet Traverse, but because of the problems I have with the Chevrolet Service Center every time something is wrong, I will never buy a Chevrolet vehicle again.

Traverse LTS V6

Check engine light started coming on. Thought it was the gas I was using so I switched and it went off. Great!

Then it came back on. Code reader says sensor in gas tank. Replace sensor. Happens again. Says emissions sensor. Replace everything it says when it says it and it STILL COMES BACK ON!!! Then it'll go off on its own. Come back on. Go off. I never know if it is really torn up or just faking it again!

2011 Chevy Traverse LS. Check engine light came on. I took it to my mechanic as I was soon due for oil/filter change anyway. It is still under warranty until 2017. He changed oil and filter, re-set check engine fault. However, when he drove it out of the shop today, the stabilitrack light came on. I read some complaints on Edmunds that it could be a valve guide leak, and timing chain problem. I will take it back to the dealership and hopefully get this all dealt with in one go!!!!
