Was driving on a family trip in June 2016. 30 miles outside of my destination, the "warning" came on that all electrical was being cut to save energy (ie; air conditioner, radio, etc). Took it to Autozone and they checked the battery....which was fine. Determined it was the alternator ($130).

Now, this is not an easy task (replacing the alternator)...especially on this nightmare. You have to take the front engine cover (the plastic piece over the radiator) off (there's about 16 plastic clips that holds it on. Then you have to put a jack under the engine and take out the engine mounting bolts and lower (drop) the engine. Then, you have to lay across the radiator and reach both hands down into a crevice that is extremely tight. Tight enough so that your hands are together like you've just been handcuffed. Then, without being able to see anything, you've got to release 3 bolts (I think it was 3...make sure you get the correct length extension....) and a couple of electrical connectors. Then, once it's free, you have to twist and turn and curse just to get it free from the small hole it was jammed in to.

Whewwww...it's out. Now, you've got to reverse the process. Twist and turn and curse to get it back into that same small hole. Then, blindly put back all 3 bolts...and...blindly connect the 2-3 electrical connectors. Then, raise the motor back up....pray that the motor hasn't shifted somehow so the motor mounts will line up. Bolt up the motor. Then install the plastic engine cover with the remaining 4-5 plastic clips (because you probably threw crap around because you got ticked off and probably hit the container you were holding these clips in and they now are as lost as a liberal tree-hugger in a deep forest.

Then, 1 year later, you'll probably be replacing the alternator again because that dang light came back on the dash just like mine has.

TL;DR: Don't buy a Chevy Traverse until they get their crap together.

It's upsetting that after only 4 years this vehicle's alternator went bad. I called the Chevy company to complain. I found out that if I would have contacted them before I repaired the part, they would have contacted the dealership to have the price lowered.

So i researched the sites after having the issue of my warning for the check charging system come on . Local auto place told me battery was defective . OK , so i replaced it . Then the light / warning went away . then it come back on next day during the drive in the morning to work . Took it back to auto place and they said it has to be the generator since the voltage meter was reading incorrectly . So i replaced it . Had the codes erased and checked and went on my way . GUESS WHAT IT IS STILL BROKE ! That did not fix it either .Well guess every one that has complained about the same thing is correct . GM is horrible about owning up to an electrical issue they have on several makes and model years of there vehicles . I have also experienced the damn tailgate issue mentioned on this site and I can throw in to recently have had issue with the Sun roof opening and not wanted to power up and close . I finally did get it to close after several attempts pushing the button and will not EVER try it again .Now I have been a loyal Chevrolet owner Since my father did work for GM and retired from there but i can tell you that after this escapade with GM and their deliberate avoidance of the issue i will forgo the GM family discount and buy a different brand and will do so very quickly while the car will hopefully make it to the dealership and work long enough for e to trade it off . !!! VERY DISAPPOINTED CHEVROLET OWNER .
